YOUR ROLE

We are looking for an experienced Driver (Logistics Handling Operations Worker) to transport people and cargo safely and efficiently within Uganda and occasionally across East Africa.

Responsibilities or duties

Transportation Duties

  • Safely transport people (staff, clients, or other passengers) and cargo to various destinations within Uganda and East Africa.
  • Plan routes efficiently to ensure timely deliveries and pickups.
  • Ensure the security of cargo and passengers at all times during transit.
  • Assist with loading and unloading cargo, ensuring proper handling to avoid damage.

Vehicle Maintenance and Care

  • Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure roadworthiness.
  • Regularly check and maintain vehicle fluids (oil, coolant, brake fluid, etc.), tire pressure, and lights.
  • Report any mechanical issues or damages promptly to the Operations Supervisor (Both Transport & workshop) and coordinate repairs.
  • Keep the vehicle clean, both inside and out, to maintain a professional appearance.
  • Monitor and ensure that the vehicle servicing schedule is adhered to.

Compliance and Safety

  • Adhere strictly to all traffic laws and regulations in Uganda and other East African countries.
  • Ensure all required vehicle documents (insurance, permits, registration, etc.) are valid and up to date.
  • Follow company safety protocols, including the proper use of seat belts and ensuring passengers comply with safety rules.
  • Maintain a logbook to record trips, mileage, and fuel usage accurately.

Customer Service

  • Exhibit excellent manners, respect, and professionalism when interacting with clients, passengers, and colleagues.
  • Provide assistance to passengers when needed, such as opening doors or carrying luggage.
  • Communicate effectively and courteously, ensuring a positive experience for all passengers.
  • Represent CEVA Logistics in a professional manner at all times.
  • Adhere to the CEVA Code of Conduct at all times

Additional Duties

  • Perform any other driving-related tasks as assigned by the Operations Supervisor.
  • Assist with administrative tasks related to vehicle operations, such as filing trip reports or fuel receipts.

Qualifications or requirements

  • A valid O-Level Certificate or equivalent is required.
  • Valid driver’s license with the appropriate class for driving commercial and passenger vehicles in Uganda and East Africa.
  • Certification in defensive driving or advanced driver training is desirable.
  • Must pass background checks, driving assessment test, literacy assessment test, and a medical fitness assessment.
  • Strong commitment to Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) compliance, with zero accident record and a dedication to maintaining the zero-accident record.
  • Knowledge of road networks within Uganda and East Africa.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge to handle minor vehicle issues.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English; knowledge of local languages is an added advantage.
  • High level of integrity, reliability, and professionalism.
  • Physically fit and able to handle the demands of long-distance driving.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive safely and efficiently in various conditions.
  • Basic understanding of vehicle care and maintenance.
  • Friendly, helpful, and professional demeanor when dealing with passengers and clients.
  • Ability to handle unexpected situations, such as breakdowns or route changes.
  • Ensuring all documentation, safety protocols, and vehicle checks are completed accurately.

Experience needed

A minimum of five (5) years working experience as a professional driver preferably in logistics or transportation.
