Job Overview/Summary:

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) has received funding from IRC Headquarter to implement a six-month project titled ‘Girls Not Brides”, a campaign aimed at bringing teenage girls (mothers) back to school. Girls Not Brides campaign aimed at responding to the challenges relating to negative social norms that do not value girls’ education and girls’ participation in decisions affecting their own lives which result into early and forced marriages, early and unplanned pregnancies that all cause girls to drop out of school.

The Education sector will implement the Girls not Brides Campaign through Girl-Ambassadors/Volunteers to raise awareness on the importance of education particularly for the girl-child. The campaign will encourage teenage girls that dropped out of school due to different reasons to ‘go back to school’. The campaign will mainly target girls who have dropped out of school and are aged between 14-17 years which is the age bracket that many girls are forced out of school either for early marriage or after they have fallen pregnant.

Project Outcome is “Teenage girls have improved access to education and stay in school longer”. Core to the project implementation will be the documentation of learning to inform further related programming but also for wider sharing of the lessons.

• Lead on daily and weekly basis, the implementation of set activities in line with the approved workplan.
• Lead the development of training materials and campaign in line with institutional expectations.
• Work very closely with the Girl-Ambassadors to conduct household and community level awareness raising campaigns to send teenage girls back to school but also sensitize parents on the importance of girl’s education.
• Work closely and collaboratively with colleagues and partners to discuss the program operational and implementation issues, provide solutions, recommendations and/or alert appropriate officials and stakeholders for higher-level intervention and/or decisions.
• Work very closely with the parents to ensure that identified teenage girls are fully supported to return to school and learn.
• Support the development of project delivery plans in collaboration with other education sector staff and in collaboration with the girl ambassadors.
• Lead the training of girl ambassadors and other clients that would be trained by the project.
• Support the linkage of target clients (teenage girls and parents/guardians) to available education services.
• Organize and facilitate Girl-Ambassadors reflections meetings (Community of Practice) and other opportunities for exchange and learning geared towards successful implementation of the project.
• Ensure close collaboration with the field-based team members and consistency in protocols, information, and reporting systems in line with institutional requirements.
• Lead coordination efforts at each project location/zonal level by ensuring weekly and monthly coordination meetings.
• Work in collaboration with settlement and community leadership in (and partners) in identification and selection of clients and delivery of project activities
• Make referrals to the appropriate actors where necessary.
• Maintain respectful and constructive relations with partner organisations, local authorities, and humanitarian actors.
• Attend zonal and sector working group coordination meetings at the settlement and sub counties of operation whenever required and providing detailed reports as required.
• Monitoring project progress, Identify, capture, synthesize and share lessons learned for knowledge development and to build the capacity of stakeholders including documenting best practices, lessons learned and success stories in line with the agreed templates and formats.
• Prepare weekly and monthly program reports, and compile lessons learnt to inform continuous project implementation.
• Collect relevant data (in collaboration with the Education MEAL team) during project implementation and provide regular reports.
• Participate in the collection of data, during assessments and post-distribution surveys as and when required including design of required tools by providing technical input.
• Participate in the verification exercise, research or MEAL whenever needed.
• Other duties as assigned by the supervisor to enable implementation of the IRC programs,
• Raise Purchase requests as and when required,
• Participate in regular team meetings and supervision sessions
• Ensure that all materials are ready for info sessions before the activity
• Work constructively within the team and take the initiative on new tasks
• Promptly report safeguarding concerns or incidents to IRC management and liaising with community leaders and other external parties as required to maintain/enhance the security environment.
• Maintain open and professional relations with team members, promoting a strong team spirit.

• Demonstrable ability to engage and build excellent working relationships with local partner organizations, create synergies while implementing the project.

• Bachelor’s degree in education, social sciences, development studies or related field.
