The Environmental Journalist will be responsible for researching, writing, and curating high-impact content that amplifies the visibility of climate action, ESG practices, and sustainability innovation. The content will support Brand Power’s thought leadership agenda, partner campaigns, training products, and media engagement strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Content Creation and Storytelling
- Produce feature stories, news articles, and profiles on climate change, biodiversity, ESG innovation, and sustainability champions.
- Write articles for Brand Power’s “ESG Insights” series, white papers, and the quarterly Brand Power Bulletin.
- Develop multimedia scripts and storyboards for videos, podcasts, and animations.
Research and Interviews
- Conduct interviews with environmental practitioners, policy-makers, youth leaders, and private sector actors.
- Monitor trends in climate policy, ESG reporting, sustainable finance, and civil society advocacy to generate content leads.
Media and Campaign Support
- Contribute journalistic content to public awareness campaigns and media toolkits for clients and partners.
- Liaise with partner media houses and contribute to co-branded supplements (e.g., The EastAfrican climate and industry features).
Thought Leadership and Visibility
- Draft op-eds and blog posts under Brand Power’s byline or on behalf of clients.
- Assist with press releases and pitching stories to regional and international outlets.
Capacity Building
- Support training sessions for NGOs and young communicators on environmental journalism and responsible storytelling.
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Environmental Journalism, Mass Communication, Environmental Studies, or related field
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in environmental or development journalism
- Strong writing and editing skills with a portfolio of published work
- Familiarity with ESG, climate policy, biodiversity, or green economy topics
- Experience working with NGOs, development agencies, or media houses in Africa
- Ability to distill complex issues into accessible narratives
- Proficiency in multimedia storytelling is an added advantage.
