Job Advert: Factory Electrician

Employment Type: Full-time

On behalf of our client, food processing company, we seek to recruit interview for a Factory Electrician.

Job Summary

The Factory Electrician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems and equipment within the grain processing plant. The role ensures continuous and efficient operation of electrical machinery and production systems while minimizing downtime and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Preventive Electrical Maintenance

  • Carry out scheduled preventive maintenance on electrical equipment and systems within the plant.
  • Inspect motors, control panels, wiring systems, sensors, switchgear, generators, and other electrical installations regularly.
  • Test electrical systems and components to ensure proper functionality and reliability.
  • Maintain preventive maintenance schedules and records.

2. Troubleshooting and Repairs

  • Diagnose and repair electrical faults in production machinery and plant equipment.
  • Respond promptly to electrical breakdowns to minimize production downtime.
  • Repair or replace defective electrical components including motors, relays, contactors, circuit breakers, switches, and cables.
  • Conduct fault-finding on automated and control systems where applicable.

3. Installation and Commissioning

  • Assist in installation, wiring, testing, and commissioning of new electrical equipment and machinery.
  • Ensure all installations comply with electrical standards and company procedures.
  • Support machine upgrades and electrical improvement projects.

4. Monitoring and Equipment Performance

  • Monitor performance of electrical systems and identify potential issues before failure occurs.
  • Ensure electrical equipment operates efficiently and safely.
  • Recommend improvements to enhance equipment reliability and energy efficiency.

5. Safety, Health, and Compliance

  • Adhere to electrical safety procedures and occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Ensure proper lockout/tagout procedures are followed during maintenance activities.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of electrical panels, workshops, and work areas.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and manufacturing standards within the plant.

6. Documentation and Inventory Control

  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, repair logs, and electrical reports.
  • Report recurring faults and recommend corrective actions.
  • Assist in monitoring stock levels of electrical spare parts and maintenance materials.

7. Teamwork and Operational Support

  • Work closely with machine operators, mechanical technicians, and production teams to support smooth operations.
  • Provide technical support during production and maintenance activities.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and problem-solving initiatives.

Key Performance Indicators

  • Reduction in electrical equipment downtime.
  • Preventive maintenance schedule compliance.
  • Response time to electrical breakdowns.
  • Equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
  • Compliance with electrical safety standards.
  • Accuracy and timeliness of maintenance documentation.

Person Specifications

  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Installation, Industrial Electronics, or related field from a recognized institution.
  • Valid electrical installation certification or license is an added advantage.
  • Additional training in industrial automation or PLC systems is desirable.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum of 2–4 years’ experience in electrical maintenance within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Experience in a grain processing plant, maize milling or food manufacturing environment is highly desirable.
  • Hands-on experience with industrial motors, control systems, generators, and automated machinery is an added advantage.
