On behalf of our client, food processing company, we seek to recruit interview for a Factory Electrician.
Job Summary
The Factory Mechanic is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation, maintenance, repair, and servicing of all mechanical equipment within the grain process plant. The role focuses on minimizing machine downtime, improving equipment reliability, supporting production efficiency, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Preventive Maintenance
- Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance on machines and related equipment.
- Inspect plant machinery regularly to identify wear, damage, or potential failures.
- Lubricate moving parts and replace worn-out components in accordance with maintenance schedules.
- Maintain accurate preventive maintenance records and reports.
Corrective Maintenance and Repairs
- Diagnose and repair mechanical faults in cleaning equipment, conveyors, elevators, motors, gearboxes, rollers, sifters, packaging machines, and related systems.
- Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns to minimize production downtime.
- Replace defective machine parts and ensure equipment is restored to optimal operating condition.
- Assist in installation, alignment, and commissioning of new machinery and equipment.
Equipment Monitoring and Performance
- Monitor machine performance and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and reliability.
- Ensure proper machine calibration and operational standards are maintained.
- Report recurring mechanical issues and recommend long-term solutions.
Safety and Compliance
- Adhere to occupational health and safety standards during maintenance activities.
- Ensure all maintenance work complies with company policies and statutory regulations.
- Maintain good housekeeping in workshops and production areas.
- Ensure safe handling and storage of tools, spare parts, and maintenance materials.
Inventory and Documentation
- Assist in monitoring spare parts and maintenance consumables inventory.
- Maintain maintenance logs, service reports, and equipment history records.
- Report spare parts requirements to the Production Supervisor in a timely manner.
Team Support
- Work closely with production staff to ensure uninterrupted plant operations.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the plant.
- Participate in technical troubleshooting and root cause analysis exercises
Key Performance Indicators
- Machine downtime reduction.
- Preventive maintenance schedule compliance.
- Mean time taken to repair equipment breakdowns.
- Equipment availability and reliability levels.
- Number of repeat equipment failures.
- Compliance with safety and maintenance standards.
- Accuracy and timeliness of maintenance reports
Person Specifications
- Diploma or Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or related field from a recognized institution.
- Additional training in industrial equipment maintenance is an added advantage.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum of 2–4 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance within a manufacturing, grain processing or maize milling environment.
- Experience working in a commercial maize mill or grain processing plant is highly desirable.
- Hands-on experience with grain processing machinery, conveyors, elevators, motors, and packaging equipment is an added advantage

- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems used in grain or maize milling operations.
- Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical faults effectively.
