1420 Bar and Restaurant is a high-end bar and restaurant located in Bugolobi.
On behalf of 1420 Bar & Restaurant, we are seeking a proactive, hands-on, and customer-focused Floor Supervisor to support the management team in overseeing daily operations and delivering exceptional guest experiences. This role is responsible for supervising floor activities, coordinating staff, maintaining service standards, and ensuring smooth and efficient operations throughout each shift.
The ideal candidate will be a strong team leader with excellent communication skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-Shift Responsibilities
- Conduct attendance checks and ensure adequate staffing levels for each shift.
- Inspect staff grooming, uniforms, name tags, and overall readiness for service.
- Verify that all workstations, dining areas, and service stations are fully prepared for operations.
- Review reservations, special events, promotions, and guest requests with the team.
- Inspect cleanliness and readiness of dining areas, bar, kitchen, washrooms, and customer-facing spaces.
- Conduct pre-shift briefings to communicate operational updates, expectations, and staff assignments.
- Assign staff to designated stations and ensure opening procedures are completed.
- Identify and address operational concerns before service begins.
During Shift Responsibilities
- Maintain a visible and active presence on the floor throughout the shift.
- Ensure guests are welcomed promptly, seated appropriately, and attended to professionally.
- Engage with guests regularly, gather feedback, and ensure a consistently positive customer experience.
- Handle customer concerns, service issues, and operational challenges promptly and professionally.
- Monitor staff performance, service standards, punctuality, teamwork, and productivity.
- Ensure cleanliness, ambiance, lighting, music, and overall guest environment are maintained to company standards.
- Coordinate with bar, kitchen, and service teams to ensure smooth service flow.
- Monitor stock availability and promptly escalate shortages that may affect service delivery.
- Ensure timely billing and payment settlement to minimise errors and losses.
- Conduct routine floor inspections to maintain service quality and operational excellence.
- Provide guidance, coaching, and support to team members throughout the shift.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, health and safety standards, hygiene procedures, and liquor licensing requirements.
- Document and report incidents, customer complaints, maintenance issues, and operational concerns.
End-of-Shift Responsibilities
- Ensure all service areas, tables, chairs, and guest spaces are cleaned and properly arranged.
- Verify that equipment, lighting, music systems, screens, and other operational systems are properly secured and shut down.
- Ensure menus, bill folders, and service materials are collected and stored appropriately.
- Inspect washrooms, workstations, and customer areas to ensure cleanliness and readiness for the next shift.
- Review and collect departmental closing checklists.
- Conduct a final inspection of the premises to ensure safety, cleanliness, and security standards are met.
- Prepare and submit end-of-shift reports highlighting guest feedback, incidents, staff performance, operational challenges, and recommendations.
Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of three (3) years' experience in the hospitality industry, preferably within bars, restaurants, lounges, or similar fast-paced environments.
- Previous supervisory experience in hospitality or customer service operations.
- Strong leadership, communication, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Excellent customer service orientation and ability to build positive guest relationships.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Proactive, solution-oriented, and capable of making sound decisions in a dynamic environment.
- Good understanding of hospitality operations, service standards, health and safety requirements, and liquor licensing regulations.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
