Background

The Women’s International Peace Centre (WIPC), on behalf of the Women’s Situation Room (WSR), hereby seeks to recruit an IT Support Technician to provide Tier-2 Technical Support to Complex User issues and oversee the daily operations of the help desk and ensure the prompt and effective resolution of all end-user technical issues.

The WSR is a non‑partisan, women‑led mechanism that mobilizes women and youth to promote peaceful electoral processes in line with United Nations Security Council Resolutions 1325 and 2250. Similar to other African countries, WSR-Uganda provides early warning and rapid response to election‑related tensions and violence, working closely with election stakeholders to promote peace before, during and after elections.

Job Purpose

The IT Support Technician will provide Tier-2 Technical Support to Complex User issues and oversee the daily operations of the help desk and ensure the prompt and effective resolution of all end-user technical issues.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Support with setting up of physical situation rooms
  • Keep ICT systems running smoothly and ensure users get the maximum benefit from them.
  • Install and configure computer hardware, operating systems and applications.
  • Monitor and maintain computer systems and networks.
  • Troubleshoot system and network problems, diagnosing and solving hardware or software faults
  • Track all ICT inventory at Head Office and Field Offices.
  • Facilitate the effective sharing of information within and outside the organization through proper management of the Local Area Network (LAN) as well as connectivity to the internet (WAN).
  • Ensure proper implementation of the organization’s ICT disaster recovery strategy through regular and strategic backup of organisational information.
  • Recommend, schedule and perform hardware and peripheral equipment improvements, upgrades and repairs.
  • Support the roll-out of new applications, Test and evaluate new technology.

Qualifications

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Information Communication Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or a related degree from a reputable Institution.
  • Certification in ITIL Foundation, CCNA, COMPTIA A+ or related is an added advantage

Experiences and Skills

  • At least three (3) years hands-on work experience in a busy organization or in a Technical Support role.
  • Extensive experience of networking systems and computer hardware is essential.
  • Proven experience as an I.T Technician
  • Strong experience with IP Telephony and A/V Conferencing Tools
  • Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
  • Good knowledge of internet security and data privacy principles.
  • Ability to work independently and also as a team.
  • Strong Written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience working with Help Desk Software and Tools.
  • Strong experience with mobile devices (Both Android and iOS)
