Job Description
To drive and deliver Trade Finance and Africa–China Banking sales outcomes for Business and Commercial Clients in Uganda, in support of the country Trade strategy. The role is accountable for the execution of Trade sales, deal origination and structuring, client engagement, pipeline management and team leadership.
Lead and manage a team of Trade Specialists, act as second-in-command to the Head of Trade & Africa China Banking, and provides leadership continuity, execution oversight and acting cover where required.
Lead the origination and structuring of Trade Finance solutions in collaboration with Client Coverage, Trade Products, Global Markets and Credit.
Actively support complex and high‑value Trade transactions, ensuring commercially sound and compliant structures. Review Trade deals prior to submission to Credit and provide guidance to improve quality, turnaround time and approval outcomes.
Provide technical guidance and quality assurance on Trade structures prepared by Trade Specialists prior to submission to Credit. Provide market intelligence and client insights to inform product development and pricing decisions.
Track Trade sales performance, pipeline activity and product utilisation against agreed targets. Prepare and contribute to Trade performance reports and management updates.
Ensure Trade sales and structuring activities comply with regulatory, credit, AML and sanctions requirements. Work closely with Trade Operations and Credit Support to ensure accurate execution and processing of Trade transactions.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Economics or related field
Postgraduate qualification (e.g. MBA or equivalent). Professional Trade Finance or Banking certifications (advantageous)
7–10 years’ experience in Trade Finance, Transactional Banking or Commercial/Corporate Banking with strong exposure to Trade sales, client solutioning and deal structuring. Proven ability to originate, structure and execute Trade Finance solutions, working closely with Client Coverage, Credit, Global Markets and Operations teams.
At least 5 years’ experience in Trade sales, relationship management or solutioning roles
Proven experience in: Trade deal structuring, Client engagement and sales execution, Credit interaction and risk assessment, Revenue and balance sheet delivery
