Description
The Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is hiring a Medical Officer under the USAID LPHS-TB Activity to ensure delivery of quality TB care and treatment services to clients by providing technical and leadership support to health facility teams.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
-
- Lead mentorship and training efforts to build capacity of facility teams to deliver high quality TB care services.
- Provide leadership to facility based technical team members to ensure timely delivery on key project tasks.
- Provide clinical care to TB patients attending IDI-Supported health facilities in line with standard care and treatment guidelines.
- Coordinate appropriate referral and management of complex patients through liaison with senior care specialists and tertiary treatment centres.
- Lead performance monitoring initiatives and routine data use activities at IDI-supported health facilities to guide implementation of project activities.
- Support the health workers to identify, implement and document continuous quality improvement activities along client care and treatment cascades.
- Coordinate and support facility efforts in follow up of clients to improve linkage, retention among clients in TB care.
- Support health facilities to compile and submit accurate reports according to project, donor and Ministry timelines.
- Any other responsibilities as may be agreed with the supervisor.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery
- Additional training in TB care and opportunistic infections will be an added advantage.
- Person Specification
- Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery
- Full and active registration with the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council.
- Additional training in TB care and opportunistic infections will be an added advantage.
- A minimum of two years of TB Clinical experience
- Demonstrable understanding of current National TB trends and priorities.
- Strong managerial skills to operate independently with limited direct supervision of day-to-day activities and to lead results-driven project teams and work groups.
- Strong oral and written communication skills are required to develop and maintain effective, sustainable working relationships with national and international working partners and to accomplish reporting requirements.
- Detailed knowledge of USAID administrative policies and regulations
- Demonstrated experience in onsite training, mentorship and QI coaching approaches
- Demonstrable capacity in building and maintaining productive working relationships with a wide network of partners and stakeholders
- Demonstrated organizational and supervisory skills and abilities, sound judgement, and high ethical standards; flexible and ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
- Fluency in English and local languages commonly used in Kampala.
