Position Summary

The M&E Officer will lead the design, implementation, and management of monitoring and evaluation systems across all Rooted Wisdom Africa programs. This role ensures data-driven decision-making, measures program outcomes, and communicates impact to stakeholders and funders.

Key Responsibilities

MEL System Design and Implementation

  • Develop and implement monitoring and evaluation frameworks, tools, and processes for all programs.
  • Establish clear data collection systems aligned with program goals and donor requirements.

Data Collection and Analysis and Learning

  • Collect, analyze, and report quantitative and qualitative data to track program progress and impact.
  • Lead real-time analysis of program monitoring data to support adaptive management during program implementation.
  • Assist in program design by providing evidence-based recommendations for improvements.

Reporting and Communication

  • Prepare high quality regular reports and presentations for donors, board members, and community stakeholders.
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, and timely reporting for internal use and external stakeholders.
  • Translate complex data into clear, compelling impact narratives.

Capacity Building and Quality Assurance

  • Support program staff in data collection, reporting, and interpretation of results.
  • Ensure data quality, consistency and integrity across all programs.
  • Train staff and volunteers on M&E best practices, processes and tools.
  • Stay updated on best practices in monitoring and evaluation, including new methods, indicators, and technology tools.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Statistics, Economics, or related field. Master’s preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in monitoring and evaluation, preferably in the nonprofit or international development sector.
  • Strong understanding of M&E frameworks, logical frameworks, tools, theories of change, performance indicators, and methodologies.
  • Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and visualization (Excel, SPSS, Stata, or similar).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Luganda.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and community stakeholders.
  • Must be based in Uganda and have the legal right to live and work in Uganda.

Preferred Attributes

  • Experience in agriculture, women’s empowerment, economic development, or youth development programs.
  • Familiarity with donor reporting requirements and grant management.
  • Ability to travel to project sites as needed.
