AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) is an international non- profit NGO based in Los Angeles, California, USA. REGIONAL POLICY AND ADVOCACY MANAGER - EAST AFRICA
Job Location: Kampala, Uganda
Scope of support: Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, Ethiopia & Malawi
The position holder under the guidance of the Director Advocacy, Policy and Marketing will contribute to AHF’s mission and vision by supporting countries in the East Africa Region to identify, develop, and implement effective and efficient policy and advocacy strategies towards influencing positive change, and in a direction that ensures improved access to HIV prevention, treatment, and care. This position will work closely with the country leadership, bureau team and the global policy, advocacy, and marketing teams in the areas of policy, advocacy, and marketing to enable AHF achieve its mission.

Responsibilities
The holder of this position will perform among others the following duties.
• Supporting country programs to identify advocacy, policy, and marketing gaps and opportunities, and to set key priorities to guide response.
• Enhancing the capacity/skill of country staff involved in advocacy (and other staff and management where needed) through training, mentorship, and coaching.
• Supporting country programs to enhance media relations, media engagement, and strategic marketing campaigns, and track and document impact working
• in close collaboration with the Bureau and Global Communications and Advocacy teams.
• Maintaining a thorough grasp of the country programs advocacy and marketing campaigns, successes, new opportunities and emerging issues.
• Promoting AHF’s work at regional and global levels and maintaining a comprehensive communication strategy for all programs/initiatives to maximize support and cooperation with partners.
• Keeping abreast of research, information and policy development and debates relevant to the fight against HIV/AIDS and informing AHF to meaningfully strategize for policy change or advocacy.
• Supporting the preparation of advocacy materials, including policy briefs, position papers, communication messages, position statements and any other material relevant to ongoing policy and advocacy campaigns.
• Maintaining correspondence with the bureau, global team members and campaign partners to keep all parties informed on key issues, progress, or challenges.

Qualifications and Experience:
• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, International Relations, or related training.
• Minimum 5 years of proven experience in policy and advocacy strategy development in the NGO sector and social movement with international NGOs or institutions will be an added advantage.
• Practical experience in popular mobilization and Policy Advocacy work at a National and International level especially on issues related to HIV.
• Relevant experience in policy analysis, lobbying creating policy briefs and policy summations and media work.
• Proven experience in networking, building networks, partnership formation and management.
• Familiarity with current HIV&AIDS practices and issues in the policy environment at national and international levels.
