Job Summary
The Research Officer is a dynamic and innova5ve professional responsible for working independently and as part of a team to generate research insights, ini5ate research topics, and support the overall research agenda of RLP. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for par5cipatory ac5on research, community engagement, and social change. They will work closely with RLP teams across various thema5c areas, including access to jus5ce, mental health and psychosocial support, gender and SRHR, transi5onal jus5ce, conflict and peace building, memory and memorialisa5on, reconcilia5on, and jus5ce. The Research Officer will work with Coordinator of Research and Documenta5on to lead research and provide research support, input, and exper5se to RLP programs, support groups, and partners, while ensuring that research is ac5on-oriented, locally sensi5ve, and culturally relevant.
Key Responsibili5es:
1. Research Design and Implementa5on:
- Ini5ate and design research studies, including developing research ques5ons, methodologies, and data collec5on tools in collabora5on with RLP teams and partners.
- Conduct literature reviews, collect and analyze data, and generate research insights, ensuring par5cipatory and inclusive approaches.
- Work with team members to develop research protocols, survey instruments, and data collec5on tools.
- Contribute to the development of research proposals and concept notes.
2. Innova5ve Research Methods:
- Develop and implement innova5ve research methods, such as storytelling, art, dance, music, and other crea5ve expressions, to engage young people and vulnerable popula5ons, including vic5ms and survivors of violence.
- Use par5cipatory and inclusive approaches to ensure that research is tailored to the needs and perspec5ves of diverse popula5ons.
- Collaborate with RLP teams and partners to develop and implement research projects that use non-conven5onal methods, such as photovoice, digital storytelling, and par5cipatory video.
3. Data Analysis and Interpreta5on:
- Analyze qualita5ve and quan5ta5ve data using various data analysis soOware and techniques.
- Generate meaningful themes, paQerns, and recommenda5ons from data, and provide insights to inform programming and policy.
- Verify data quality and ensure accuracy in repor5ng.
4. Research Dissemina5on and Communica5on:
- Prepare research reports, policy briefs, and other communica5on products, including audio-visual materials.
- Disseminate research findings to stakeholders, including government, NGOs, and communi5es, using innova5ve and engaging methods.
- Engage with media, academia, and other external partners to share research insights.
5. Community Engagement and Par5cipa5on:
- Engage with communi5es and stakeholders to promote research acceptance and par5cipa5on.
- Assist with obtaining informed consent from research par5cipants, including administering consent forms.
- Build rela5onships with community leaders and members to facilitate research access and acceptance.
- Support the development of community engagement plans and strategies.
6. Data Protec5on and Management:
- Ensure all research data is handled and stored in accordance with RLP's data protec5on policies and procedures.
- Support the Research Officer with data management and archiving, including transferring data to secure servers.
- Assist with maintaining confiden5ality and anonymity of research par5cipants.
7. Collabora5on and Teamwork:
- Work closely with RLP teams and partners to ensure research projects are completed on 5me, within budget, and to a high standard.
- Collaborate with data management and archiving teams to ensure data is properly managed and stored.
- Provide support and assistance to other team members as needed.
Requirements:
- Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., social sciences, poli5cal science, research, sta5s5cs, development studies, or related fields).
- 5 years of experience in research, with a focus on par5cipatory ac5on research and community engagement.
- Excellent organiza5onal and communica5on skills, with aQen5on to detail and ability to work independently.
- Fluency in English; knowledge of local languages an asset.
- Familiarity with data management soOware and tools (e.g., NVivo, Excel, SPSS, or R).
