Job Description
Main Purpose:
The Senior Manager – Commercial Planning is responsible for the maximization of financial performance and strategic growth by optimizing revenue streams and managing a portfolio of products, services, or ventures. This involves aligning business objectives with market opportunities, forecasting revenue potential, and ensuring efficient resource allocation to drive profitability and long-term value creation.
Measure performance and provide insights through collection and interpretation of data concerning customers and their usage behavior, channels used, competition and the macro-environment into relevant, accurate and usable strategic knowledge
The role involves providing strategic recommendations to enhance efficiency and revenue growth.
The incumbent will collaborate with senior leadership, finance, and operational teams to drive data-driven decision-making.

Main Job Functions:
- Analyzing market trends, customer behavior, services portfolio, and pricing models to identify revenue opportunities.
- Collaborate with sales and network operations teams to align revenue goals with infrastructure capacity, service quality, and customer expectations.
- Develop strategies to forecast and maximize revenue from telecommunications services such as voice & data.
- Monitor and adjust revenue forecasts based on technological advancements (e.g., 5G adoption), regulatory changes (e.g., spectrum allocation), and competitive pressures in the telecom market.
- Evaluate portfolio performance using metrics like average revenue per user (ARPU), customer retention rates, return on investment (ROI), or network utilization.
- Leverage analytics and market intelligence to monitor portfolio performance and adapt to shifts in demand, such as increased need for low-latency networks or high-speed connectivity solutions.
- Ensure revenue planning and portfolio decisions support the company’s mission, whether it’s expanding network coverage, enhancing service quality, or pioneering next-generation telecom technologies.
- Analyze financial and operational data to uncover trends, risks, and opportunities. Assess the impact of pricing, promotions, and market dynamics, providing data-driven insights to support forecasting, budgeting, and strategy.
- Work cross-functionally with Finance, Sales, and FinTech teams to align strategies. Present insights and recommendations to senior stakeholders for informed decision-making.
- Drive quality insights, automation and next level analysis to enhance decision-making.
- Lead and mentor a team of data analysts, setting clear goals and fostering a high-performance, data-driven culture through coaching and feedback.
- Develop and manage tools and models to assess MTN’s key value drivers and provide ad hoc analytical support to assess key strategic decisions’ economic and commercial impact (e.g., major investments, disruptive products or pricing plans)
- Provide and validate main strategic assumptions for all business cases in the organization to ensure alignment with MTN’s Business Plan and strategy.
- Ensure collaboration with other business units in developing business models and frameworks that support business decisions and business planning and assist in developing and reviewing scenarios within the models.
Key Performance Areas
- Good with insights extraction from big data and presentation of findings in a very easy to consume manner.
- Effective performance monitoring and reporting.
- Automation of reports and data visualization.
- Development of sound business plans, reforecasts, and key financial assumptions.
- Manage relationships with staff within the Marketing department and other departments to achieve objectives.
- Communicate actively and effectively resolving any potential conflicts that may arise
- Have the self-insight and flexibility to adapt to different situations
- Manage boundaries that separate units to optimize workflow
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
- A Master’s degree is desirable.
Work Experience
- 8 years’ experience in telecoms or related environment of which at least 3 years are in managing customer analytics and business intelligence projects and initiatives.
- At least 5 years’ experience in business analysis, pricing, financial modelling, Customer Value Management and product evaluation
- Strong analytical skills with expertise in Power BI, SQL, PowerPoint, and advanced Excel modelling.
- Solid understanding of telecom industry KPIs, revenue streams, and operational metrics.
- Excellent communication and storytelling skills to translate data insights into actionable business recommendations.
- Proven ability to work with large datasets and simplify complex data for decision-making.
- Strong problem-solving mindset and results-driven approach.
- Proven leadership experience with the ability to manage teams and drive strategic initiatives.
- Experience in advanced analytics tools and techniques
