Role: Technical Lead – Projects and Services (Protection Engineer)
Amotech Africa is recruiting a Technical Lead – Projects & Services (Protection Engineer) who will lead the technical delivery of electrical testing, commissioning, protection, SCADA, and engineering services across all projects within the Services Department. The Technical Lead will play a pivotal role in ensuring project execution and upholding quality and compliance standards in alignment with the company’s strategic direction.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
- Qualification in Project Management is an added advantage.
- Minimum 5-6 years of experience in system protection and control engineering.
- Proven experience in Testing & Commissioning of MV/LV switchgear, protection relays, transformers, GIS/AIS, and associated systems.
- Ability to lead or execute protection coordination studies using software (ETAP, DIgSILENT, CYME).
- Knowledge of power system components such as CT’s, VT’s, Meters, Circuit Breakers, Load Break Switches, Vacuum Contactor etc.
- Proficiency in protection relay configuration and testing tools.
- Strong understanding of power system protection principles and schemes.
- Familiarity with SCADA and communication protocols (IEC 61850, Modbus, etc.)
Key Responsibilities:
Engineering
- Lead the development of new electrical testing, protection, and SCADA service offerings to support diversification goals.
- Review and interpret MV/HV protection and control system designs, including relay settings, protection schemes, and wiring diagrams.
- Review and interpret OEM specifications, client requirements, and project standards.
Project Management and Delivery
- Lead technical aspects of projects from inception to completion.
- Prepare and review project proposals, technical specifications, and budgets.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams, subcontractors, and OEM partners to ensure seamless execution.
- Lead a team of project engineers (power systems protection & control).
- Ensure 100% QA/QC compliance for all technical deliverables in line with organizational standards.
Testing and Commissioning
- Develop testing and commissioning plans for MV/HV systems.
- Lead on-site testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of protection and control equipment.
- Prepare test reports and ensure compliance with applicable standards.
- Provide post-installation support and troubleshooting.
Technical Support for Commercial & Business Development
- Support tender preparation by defining scope, technical methodology, manpower estimates, and equipment requirements.
- Act as the primary technical liaison with clients, OEMs, and stakeholder.
- Conduct technical presentations and training for clients and team members.
- Provide the commercial team with accurate technical inputs for proposals, SLAs, and bids.
- Identify new markets and technical opportunities in testing, commissioning, protection, and engineering services offered by AAL
Compliance and Standards
- Ensure all designs and installations comply with international and local standards (IEC, IEEE, etc.).
- Ensure adherence to safety procedures, risk assessments, and technical work instructions.
- Maintain knowledge of emerging trends and advancements in MV/HV protection systems.
- Develop and implement quality assurance procedures.
