Description
Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) is hiring a Transport & Customs Officer to perform the day-to-day activities and administrative processes for the clearance and transportation of medical and non- medical goods for Support Unit Kampala Office according to MSF protocols and standards to ensure the optimal running of the mission
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Managing and planning, in collaboration with the line Manager and the Warehouse Supervisor, the shipment of goods between the projects and/or from the capital to the projects
- Responsible for the reception of international freight and its forwarding to the field plus all customs administrative related issues
- Regularly assessing the local transport market (companies, prices, services, delays .) and proposing different third-party providers for validation
- Responsible to follow up in person all cargo clearance and authority formalities in the field (i.e change ice packs at the airport, deposit and exit units at URA, hand deliver all necessary documents when needed to the different external offices, airport cargo clearance)
- Supervise all loading and offloading of cargo and support customs agent in clearing all MSF Cargo upon request
- Responsible for ensuring the correct and timely settlement of all transport and customs service providers invoices in accordance with Support Unit Kampala internal procedures
- Encode raw transport and customs data in the transport monitoring tool and ensure the tool is up-to-date and available on Sharepoint at any given time.
- Preparation of letters for tax exemptions to MOFA. URA & and other authority bodies
- Process contracts before cargo is sent to the supported missions and ensure all parties have signed contracts before cargo departure
- Update and maintain accurate cargo follow-up tools i.e Soft copy of transport follow up and cargo boards
- Any other duty as may be assigned by your supervisor from time to time
- Committed and adhere to MSF Principles
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
Education: Degree in Transport & Logistics Management, Procurements, Logistics Management, Customs Clearing & Forwarding Management, or Higher Diploma in Customs Clearing & Forwarding A certificate in East African Customs Freight Forwarding Practice is an added advantage.
Experience: Two (2) years experience in similar role
Previous working experience with MSF or other INGO is an asset
Competences/Skills: Must be computer literate (word, outlook, excel) High level of organization and planning skills High level of integrity and accountability Results and Quality Oriented. Teamwork. Flexibility. Mobility Able to work with Multi-disciplinary and Multicultural People and with flawless communication
Language: English is essential French is an added advantage
