Medecins Sans Frontières - Support Unit Kampala is looking for a suitable fresh graduate for an internship placement as below:

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

In close collaboration with the Workshop team and under continuous guidance of the assigned supervisor during this placement period, the Welder Intern is to learn how to practically perform fuses, cuts, and shaping metal parts to fabricate or repair equipment, following blueprints and safety protocols according to the supervisor’s instructions and MSF standards and procedures, to ensure proper functioning and maintenance of MSF equipment, installations and infrastructures.

KEY AREAS OF LEARNING:

Preparing materials (cutting, grinding), setting up welding equipment (MIG, TIG, ARC), performing precise welds, and double-checking finished joints for quality.

Reading blueprints, measuring materials, cutting, drilling, and cleaning metal surfaces before welding.

Joining metal components, repairing equipment, vehicles and constructing structures using techniques like MIG, TIG, and stick welding.

Responsible for the equipment and tools, including checking if they are correctly stored and safely used.

Adhering to strict safety protocols (PPE), inspecting welds for structural integrity, and ensuring accurate measurements according to the blueprints.

Operating machinery such as welders, grinders, saws, and overhead cranes.

Preparing needed reports before and after any repair or required maintenance.

Maintaining a clean workspace and performing routine maintenance on welding equipment.

Performing delegated tasks any relevant assigned tasks.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

National Diploma or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Diploma in Welding & Metal Fabrication. (Evidence of school completion transcripts in the last exams will be mandatory.)

Experience:

Fresh Graduate ONLY (Preferably 2024 and 2025 Graduates)

Competencies/ Skills:

High attention to detail for accuracy and quality work. Team player, Flexibility, rigour, pro-activeness, ability to work in a multi-disciplinary and multicultural environment.

Language:

English is mandatory, French is a strong asset
