JOB DETAILS:
Job Overview:
The role is responsible for the successful performance of welding, welding quality control and inspection of welding related operations at Site. This will manage NDE resources, planning and execution of related welding activities and identify non-conformities and take appropriate action to control / prevent any occurrence. This role will perform Quality audits as applicable to verify compliance with project specifications and procedures and interface with Construction, Field Engineering, Subcontractors, Certifying Authority and Client as required.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
• Establish and implement Welding QC quality requirements. Including but not limited to: confirmation that suitable equipment is calibrated and in use, suitable materials and consumables are used and required HSE requirements are met. Responsible for development and acceptance of Piping/Welding ITPs, material verification and traceability, WPS/WPQR verification, correct application of PWHT and visual and NDE completed weld acceptance. Responsible for the review and approval of pWPS/WPQR applicable to site welding, input into the development of ITPs, overseeing weld traceability and required input into the weld database, reporting on welder performance, weld repair rate and welding related Key Performance Indicators. Responsible for coordinating all requirements for Non - Destructive Examination, support in the raising of any required permits, site access, and technique to be used.
• Support in development, responsible for review and implementation of Piping/Welding Quality Plans & Inspection Test Plans (ITPs).
• Review and approval of subcontractor proposals, Piping/Welding QC ITPs, pWPs, WPQR, WQTs and associated NDE and repair procedures.
• Where required prepare welding procedures and compile associated WPQRs in accordance with required Codes, Standards, and Client requirements.
• Provide welding process, consumable, and equipment technical support
• Coordinate with Client Materials, Welding and Quality teams for welding related matters.
• Manage the welder qualification process and administer the weld traceability database
• Ensure all the requirements of Piping/Welding Specifications, Project Procedures and Drawings are followed.
• Review of the NDE sub-contractor’s procedures and coordinate NDE sub-contractor’s work to minimize impact on construction schedule.
• Review NDE reports and other deliverables from subcontractor
• Coordinate with Piping/Welding Inspectors and NDE Subcontractors
• Initiate and implement advanced NDT techniques, review Certification of NDT operators, Review and update NDE procedures, Implementation of latest technology in NDE.
• Ensure safe handling and use of radioactive equipment and personnel within the site.
• Where required perform, supervise, monitor and witness critical inspection & test activities at site in accordance with the ITPs.
• Exercise a proactive approach in the prevention of any potential issues by interfacing with Construction, Field Engineering, Subcontractors and Client as required.
• Assist in resolving Metallurgical, Welding and Quality related problems, through investigating cause of failures and determining fit for purpose.
• Ensure completeness and endorsement of quality related records/documentation, maintenance and storage and that deliverables are progressively compiled, finalised and included into the final project handover records.
• Provide regular reports on quality progress, issues, risks and opportunities to Site Quality Team
• Perform 1st and 2nd party audits as required as the QC subject matter expert for Welding.
• Raise non-conformance reports and ensure resolution of any non-conforming practices or materials/products and actively execute corrective and preventative actions
• Interface with Certifying Authority and other third parties to ensure timely certification and hand over of completed work
• Ensure that the National Content Plan is followed by all parties (McDermott and Subcontractors).
• Managing the training and advancement of local employees and ensuring that knowledge of the company’s policies and procedures are included.

Essential Qualifications and Education:
• University Graduate in Welding Engineering or Metallurgy with minimum 10+ years’ experience in Welding and NDE Engineering and QC related activities.
• CSWIP 3.1/3.2 CWI or AWS CWI/SCWI, familiarity with ASME requirements.
• Familiar with site quality control surveillance schemes.
• Major fabrication/construction site experience. Demonstratable similar scope experience if not energy industry related.
• Familiar with construction standards and code of practices
• Experience in coordination of third party authorities and associated regulatory requirements.
• Preferred audit experience to ISO9001:2015 and/or construction inspection qualifications.
• Computer skills - MS Office Suite.
