Organization: ADRA Uganda

Reports to: Project Manager

In collaboration with Food Agriculture Organization- FAO, ADRA Uganda is focusing on implementing a 15-month – May 2025- August 2026 Farmer Field and Farmer Business School intervention in the two Districts of Karenga and Kaabong in Karamoja. Thus, to achieve the project objectives and targets ADRA seeks to recruit committed and experienced community facilitators to mobilize, support and build the capacity of over 63 farmer groups. Farmer Field Schools (FFS) and Farmer Business Schools play pivotal roles in enhancing agricultural practices and promoting sustainable livelihoods and they are integral to the success of FAO-funded projects in Karamoja, contributing to the empowerment of farmers through knowledge transfer and capacity building.

Duties and Responsibilities of the FFS/FBS community Facilitators

  • Mobilize and register the existing FFS-FBS Farmer groups.
  • Mobilize and support formation of new FFL-FBS groups!
  • Support mobilization, strengthening/establishment of farmer business schools and sub-county/parish networks to enhance their functionality and capacity to respond to the needs of their members!
  • Mobilize and develop the entrepreneurial and business management capacity of farming communities on market-oriented integrated livestock-crop-tree production systems through farmer business schools!
  • Conduct weekly sessions focusing on crop management, integrated pest management, soil fertility, and water management.
  • Facilitate Group Learning: Organize and lead group sessions that encourage peer learning and practical application of business concepts.
  • Mobilize and develop prioritized gender-responsive sustainable value chains for crop, livestock, and forest enterprises and strengthen private sector linkages!
  • Develop entrepreneurial and business management capacity of young people (especially out-of-school youth) and women groups to start viable small businesses on prioritized nutrition-sensitive agri-food value chains and strengthen linkages with markets!
  • Mobilize and Support implementation of integrated digital solutions to farmers, including linkages to agricultural advisory services, financial services, and markets!
  • Support review and implementation of watershed plans and maps in selected catchments using watershed management approach.
  • Support dissemination of multi-hazard early warning information to communities and key local actors.
  • . Train FFS and supports Setting up of demonstration gardens and Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) sites at the parish level, guiding farmers through the process.
  • Sensitize and create awareness and build capacity on multi-hazard disaster risk management through appropriate climate smart agricultural practices in the project areas.
  • Facilitate Group Learning: Organize and lead group sessions that encourage peer learning and practical application of business concepts.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or degree in agriculture, agricultural extension, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in community-based agricultural extension.
  • Strong facilitation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in local languages and a valid motorcycle riding license may be required.
  • Experience in adult education and community mobilization.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with local communities and stakeholders
