About the role

As a Regional A&R Agent, you will act as the primary liaison between local music talent in your region and Opus Music Africa. You will identify promising artists, producers, and songwriters, introducing them to Opus Music’s white-label distribution and co-publishing ecosystem.

You will be granted access to the Opus Agent Dashboard, where you can track the artists you recruit, monitor their release activity, and oversee royalty generation. You will operate with business independence, leveraging your local network to create commercial opportunities for creators while leveraging the official "Opus Music Partner" branding, client contracts, and promotional frameworks.

Key Partnership Features & Benefits:

1. Brand Authority: Authorized to represent your agency as an official Distribution and Publishing A&R Partner of Opus Music Africa.

2. Dedicated Tech Infrastructure: Access to the Agent Dashboard and custom onboarding codes for your artists.

3. Tiered Royalty Sharing: Earn a direct share of Opus Music’s revenue based on your active roster size:

  • 1 – 9 Active Clients: 3% of Gross Receipts (10% of Net Receipts).
  • 10 – 30 Active Clients: 7.5% of Gross Receipts (25% of Net Receipts).
  • 31+ Active Clients: 10% of Gross Receipts (33.3% of Net Receipts).

4. No Asset Liability for Non-Exclusive Clients: Non-exclusive artists onboarded through your agency fall under Opus Music for administration, legal liability, copyright filings, and ongoing content management—allowing you to focus strictly on talent sourcing and growth.

Responsibilities

1. Talent Scouting & Recruitment: Continuously scout, identify, and recruit emerging and established musical artists, songwriters, and producers across your designated region of Uganda.

2. Creator Onboarding: Guide recruited artists through registration on the Opus Music platform using your unique Agent Code to ensure proper dashboard configuration and split setup.

3. Artist Development & Opportunity Creation: Work closely with local creators to improve their music readiness, organize studio sessions, facilitate local collaborations, and help them leverage digital distribution and streaming analytics.

4. Publishing & Catalog Facilitation: Assist artists in organizing metadata, registering works, and submitting audio files (E-Music Files) for global distribution across Retail Partners (Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Boomplay, etc.) and collection societies (e.g., UPRS).

5. Regional Market Representation: Serve as the local ambassador for Opus Music Africa at regional shows, studio hubs, media outlets, and industry gatherings.

6. Accountability & Reporting: Maintain regular updates via your Agent Dashboard, track active releases, and review semi-annual royalty reports generated by the system.

What we're looking for

- Proven Music Industry Experience: Demonstrated background in music, artist management, event promotion, talent scouting, or record label operations in Uganda.

- Studio Ownership / Technical Connection: Ownership of a commercial recording studio, active work as a music producer/audio engineer, or a strong direct relationship with recording hubs in your region is strongly preferred.

- Entrepreneurial Mindset: A self-starter willing to adapt to modern music business models, digital rights management, and evolving trends within the Ugandan and broader African music ecosystem.

- Network & Presence: Deep connections within your regional music scene (producers, DJs, radio presenters, local hitmakers, and performance venues).

- Basic Digital & Business Literacy: Ability to navigate web dashboards, understand digital music platforms (DSPs), handle basic online forms, and manage client communications.

- Age & Legal Standing: Must be 18 years of age or older, based in Uganda, and legally eligible to enter into an independent agency contract.
