Job Purpose:

The Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements. This role includes managing accounts payable and receivable, reconciling bank statements, processing payroll, and supporting financial decision-making through analysis and reporting. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, excellent analytical skills, and a solid understanding of accounting principles.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Management & Reporting.
  • Prepare and maintain financial statements, including balance sheets, profit & loss statements, and cash flow reports.
  • Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Conduct financial analysis and provide insights for business decision-making.
  • Assist in preparing budgets and financial forecasts.
  1. Accounts Payable & Receivable.
  • Process invoices, payments, and expense reports accurately and efficiently.
  • Manage and reconcile accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding payments.
  • Ensure suppliers and vendors are paid in a timely manner, maintaining good relationships.
  1. Taxation & Compliance:
  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations, including VAT, PAYE, corporate tax, and other statutory obligations.
  • Prepare and submit tax returns and statutory filings in a timely manner.
  • Liaise with auditors and regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with financial laws.
  1. Bank Reconciliation & Cash Flow Management.
  • Reconcile bank statements and ensure proper tracking of financial transactions.
  • Monitor cash flow and advise on financial planning and liquidity management.
  • Process payroll and ensure statutory deductions are submitted on time.
  1. Internal Controls & Financial Systems.
  • Implement and maintain financial controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Ensure proper documentation and record-keeping of financial transactions.
  • Improve and optimize financial processes and accounting systems for efficiency.

Requirements

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Certified Accountant (CPA, ACCA, or equivalent) preferred.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in accounting, preferably in retail or distribution.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and tax regulations.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, ERP systems) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
