Department: Finance and Accounts
Reports To: Finance Manager / Accountant
Location: Kampala, Uganda

Job Summary
The Assistant Finance Officer will support the Finance Department in maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial reports, managing tax compliance, and ensuring adherence to Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) requirements. The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience with URA systems including EFRIS, VAT returns, PAYE, Withholding Tax, and other statutory obligations.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management

  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of financial records and accounting documents.
  • Process invoices, payments, receipts, and journal entries.
  • Reconcile bank statements, cashbooks, and supplier accounts.
  • Maintain proper filing of financial documents and records.
  • Assist in monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.

Tax and URA Compliance

  • Manage and maintain the company's EFRIS account and ensure timely issuance and verification of e-invoices and e-receipts.
  • Prepare and file VAT returns accurately and within statutory deadlines.
  • Process and file PAYE returns through the URA portal.
  • Prepare and submit Withholding Tax returns.
  • Assist in Corporate Income Tax compliance and tax reconciliations.
  • Ensure compliance with all URA regulations and requirements.
  • Liaise with URA on tax matters, audits, and compliance issues.

Budgeting and Reporting

  • Assist in budget preparation and monitoring.
  • Generate financial reports as required by management.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation.

Other Duties

  • Support procurement and payment processes.
  • Monitor accounts receivable and payable.
  • Perform any other finance and administrative duties assigned by management.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration (Accounting Option), Commerce, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in finance, accounting, or taxation.
  • Practical experience with URA systems, particularly EFRIS.
  • Knowledge of VAT, PAYE, Withholding Tax, NSSF, and other statutory requirements.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Professional qualifications such as CPA (Level I or above) are an added advantage.
