JOB DETAILS:

Background

The National Agricultural Research Organisation is established by the National Agricultural Research Act 2005 as a body corporate with the mandate to provide strategic direction for publicly funded agricultural research in Uganda. The organisation is composed of the Council as its governing body, Committees of Council, a Secretariat for its day-to-day operations with semi-autonomous Public Agricultural Research Institutes (PARI’s) under its policy guidance. The Director General invites suitably qualified Ugandans to apply for the following positions at PARIs and NARO Secretariat.

Responsibilities

• Conduct Toxicological Studies: Design and execute experiments to assess the toxicity of pesticides, chemicals, and other substances on target and non-target organisms.
• Pesticide Residue Analysis: Perform laboratory analysis to detect and quantify pesticide residues in food, water, soil, and biological samples using analytical techniques (e.g., HPLC, GC-MS).
• Risk Assessment: Evaluate the environmental and health risks associated with pesticide use and recommend mitigation strategies.
• Data Collection & Analysis: Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data, preparing technical reports and scientific papers for publication.
• Develop Protocols: Establish and validate standard operating procedures (SOPs) for toxicological testing and pesticide analysis.
• Compliance: Ensure all research activities comply with national and international safety and regulatory standards.
• Capacity Building: Train junior staff and students in toxicology and pesticide science techniques.

Tenure of Office

The tenure of office is a 5-year contract renewable upon satisfactory performance.
