Our mission is rooted in personal and communal transformation that reflects the love and truth of Christ.

Position Summary

As an Enrolled Midwife at AsOne Ministries, your role goes beyond assisting at deliveries. You will be responsible for providing safe, competent, and compassionate basic midwifery care to women and families throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and the postnatal period at the AsOne clinic, working under the supervision of the Registered Midwife and Clinical Officer, and delivering excellent, Christ-centered customer care to every client you serve. You are expected to uphold the professional code of conduct for midwives as set by the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Registered Midwife or Clinical Officer during labor and delivery, providing supportive care to mothers throughout the birthing process.
  • Provide basic postnatal care to mothers and newborns under supervision, monitoring recovery and reporting any concerns promptly.
  • Assist with immediate newborn care, including keeping the baby warm, supporting initiation of breastfeeding, and basic newborn checks.
  • Support family planning clinics by preparing clients, assisting with counseling sessions, and helping with method provision under supervision.
  • Assist in recognizing signs of obstetric complications or emergencies, promptly alerting the Registered Midwife or Clinical Officer.
  • Support antenatal and postnatal education sessions on nutrition, hygiene, immunization, and newborn care.
  • Assist with cervical cancer screening, HIV counseling and testing, and other maternal health services as directed by senior staff.
  • Provide holistic care that integrates physical, emotional, and spiritual support, including prayer with clients where appropriate and welcomed.
  • Follow infection prevention and control protocols strictly during deliveries and all clinical procedures.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records, including antenatal cards, delivery registers, and postnatal records, under supervision.
  • Assist in completing daily and weekly maternal health returns and statistics for submission to the Registered Midwife or Clinic Manager.
  • Support the monitoring of stock levels of midwifery supplies, drugs, and delivery kits, and flag shortages or expiring items to senior staff.
  • Assist in the proper use, cleaning, sterilization, and safe storage of midwifery and delivery equipment.
  • Support the scheduling and coordination of antenatal, delivery, and postnatal appointments under supervision.
  • Ensure compliance with clinic policies, national health regulations, and data protection standards in all record-keeping and client interactions.
  • Assist in preparing the clinic environment and documentation for inspections, audits, or visits by health authorities or partners.

Customer Care & Client Experience

  • Welcome and attend to every client with warmth, respect, dignity, and patience, regardless of background or circumstance.
  • Communicate clearly and kindly with mothers and families about their care during pregnancy, labor, and after delivery, ensuring they feel heard and respected.
  • Maintain a calm, reassuring, and friendly demeanor, especially with anxious, distressed, or first-time mothers and their families.
  • Respect clients' birth preferences and cultural values wherever safely possible, and support them in feeling involved in their own care.
  • Help manage client flow in antenatal, labor, and postnatal areas to minimize delays and reduce client and family frustration.
  • Listen to client and family concerns or complaints with empathy and professionalism, promptly referring them to the Registered Midwife or Clinical Officer for resolution.
  • Protect client confidentiality and privacy at all times, particularly around sensitive matters such as HIV status and reproductive health choices.
  • Follow up with mothers and newborns as directed after delivery or referral to support continuity of care and client satisfaction.
  • Model Christ-like compassion and encouragement in every client interaction, reinforcing AsOne's holistic, people-first approach to maternal care.

  • Engage respectfully with community health volunteers and partner organizations supporting the clinic's maternal health outreach programs.
  • Participate in staff devotions, fellowships, and outreach initiatives as part of the AsOne community.

Professional Development

  • Reflect on midwifery practice and pursue continuous personal and professional growth.
  • Attend continuing nursing/midwifery education (CNE/CME) sessions and maintain up-to-date licensing and certification.
  • Stay current with basic midwifery best practices and national maternal health guidelines relevant to the community served.

Other Duties
