For over 30 years, we have strengthened health systems, promoted inclusive education, and advanced economic empowerment, focusing on the poorest and most marginalised.
Through our We Can Work programme, an eight-year regional initiative funded by the Mastercard Foundation, we aim to enable at least one million young women and men with disabilities across Africa to access dignified and fulfilling work. The programme drives systems and mindset change by working with organisations of persons with disabilities, entrepreneurship hubs, and key ecosystem actors, while placing young people with disabilities at the centre as leaders and change agents.
Place of work: One of the Light for the World country offices Ethiopia, Uganda or Kenya with frequent travel required

About the role
Reporting to the Head of Technical Advisory Services team at Light for the World, the Expert Digital Accessibility is responsible for developing disability inclusive practices in Higher Education Institutions, Digital Enterprises and Developers through training, coaching and advisory services, both in person and virtually. The role holder will be responsible for meeting disability inclusion targets set under the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program and Digital Economy programs with attention for meaningful participation and access to dignified and fulfilling work.
Tasks
- Provide technical expertise on digital accessibility and assistive technology to higher education institutions, EdTech providers, and digital economy partners.
- Support partners to integrate accessibility standards across e-learning platforms, recruitment systems, and digital tools.
- Design and deliver training, workshops, and coaching on digital accessibility for diverse stakeholders.
- Support and guide digital accessibility audits and implementation of Disability Inclusion Action Plans (DIAPs).
- Advise on the selection and use of assistive technologies, prioritising locally appropriate solutions.
- Develop and share tools, resources, and learning materials on digital accessibility and assistive technology.
- Contribute to Communities of Practice, learning events, and proposal development in collaboration with country teams and thematic experts.
Requirements
- University degree in ICT, Software Engineering, Digital Technologies, or a related field.
- Additional training or certification in Digital Accessibility and/or Assistive Technology.
- Minimum 5 years’ professional experience in digital accessibility, inclusive education programming, or related fields.
- Practical experience with accessible digital platforms and training adults in professional settings.
- Strong understanding of barriers faced by persons with disabilities, through professional and/or lived experience.
- Experience working with NGOs, higher education institutions, or digital economy actors is an asset.
- Fluency in English; French is an advantage.
