Job Summary
We are looking for a detail-oriented and highly organized Finance Assistant to support our Finance & Accounts team in managing day-to-day financial transactions, records, tax compliance, and reporting. The ideal candidate should have strong practical experience using the URA (Uganda Revenue Authority) Portal and EFRIS (Electronic Fiscal Receipting and Invoicing Solution), with a good understanding of invoicing, tax documentation, reconciliations, and general accounting procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, issue, and manage invoices and receipts using EFRIS.
- Ensure accurate and timely EFRIS invoice registration and compliance.
- Manage day-to-day activities on the URA Portal, including tax-related submissions and documentation.
- Assist with VAT, PAYE, withholding tax, and other statutory tax compliance activities.
- Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
- Post and reconcile financial transactions in the accounting system.
- Perform bank, cash, receivables, and payables reconciliations.
- Assist in preparation of monthly financial reports and schedules.
- Monitor customer invoices, payments, and outstanding balances.
- Assist with accounts payable and supplier documentation.
- Verify invoices and supporting documents for accuracy and compliance.
- Maintain proper filing of financial and tax records for audit purposes.
- Assist with preparation of documents and schedules required for internal and external audits.
- Support the Finance Manager with other accounting and administrative duties as required.
- Ensure all financial activities comply with company policies and applicable Ugandan tax and accounting requirements.
Key Skills & Competencies
Essential:
- Strong practical knowledge of EFRIS.
- Strong practical knowledge of the URA Portal.
- Good understanding of Uganda tax compliance procedures.
- Good knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles.
- Strong Excel skills and ability to work with financial spreadsheets.
- Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Good organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of financial information.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 2–3 years of relevant experience in finance, accounting, or a similar role.
- Demonstrable experience using EFRIS and the URA Portal is highly preferred.
- Experience with accounting software is an added advantage.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is someone who can actually operate EFRIS and the URA Portal confidently, rather than someone who only has theoretical knowledge of tax compliance. The candidate should be able to work accurately with invoices, tax records, reconciliations, and statutory documentation while maintaining strong attention to detail.
