We are looking for competent, skilled and experienced FINANCIAL CONTROLLER to work in Kampala, Uganda Head Office.
Role Overview
The Financial Controller is a senior finance leadership role responsible for the full financial stewardship of four business entities operating in Uganda. The role owns the financial reporting, controls environment, cash management, compliance and planning cycle for the Uganda portfolio, and acts as the primary finance business partner to Uganda-based operational and commercial teams. This position has been created to allow the Group CFO to redirect focus from day-to-day financial operations to strategic Group-level priorities.

Responsibilities or duties
Financial Reporting & Integrity
- Own the monthly, quarterly and annual close process for all Uganda entities, ensuring accuracy, completeness and timeliness of financial statements.
- Prepare and present consolidated Uganda management accounts to the Group CFO by agreed deadlines.
- Maintain a robust consolidation pack including P&L, balance sheet, cash flow and variance analysis with clear commentary.
- Ensure intercompany transactions across Uganda entities are properly captured and reconciled.
- Manage the statutory audit process for all Uganda entities, serving as the primary auditor contact.
Financial Controls & Compliance
- Design, implement and monitor an effective internal controls framework across Uganda operations.
- Ensure compliance with Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) tax obligations — PAYE, VAT, WHT, CIT — and manage relationships with tax authorities.
- Oversee timely statutory submissions and regulatory filings for all Uganda entities.
- Lead risk identification and mitigation across the Uganda finance function.
Accounts Receivable & Accounts Payable Oversight
- Provide direct line management and performance oversight to the Group AR and Group AP functions for Uganda-based transactions.
- Set and enforce credit terms, collections KPIs and DSO targets; hold AR accountable to the 30% HR cost-to-GP threshold and debtor ageing benchmarks.
- Oversee the AP cycle, ensuring payables are processed accurately and suppliers are paid within agreed terms, supporting cash flow management.
- Escalate significant AR or AP issues to the Group CFO and propose remediation actions.
Cash & Treasury Management
- Manage daily and weekly cash positions across Uganda entities; prepare 13-week rolling cash flow forecasts.
- Optimise working capital: minimise DSO, manage creditor terms and maintain adequate liquidity buffers.
- Liaise with banking partners on facilities, forex requirements and payment processing.
- Monitor and report on cash reserves against the Group’s annual targets.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Business Partnering
- Lead the Uganda annual budgeting and re-forecasting process in coordination with the Group FP&A Manager.
- Provide insightful commercial analysis to Uganda entity heads — GP margin, HR cost ratios, contract profitability.
- Proactively flag underperformance and support corrective action planning at entity level.
- Track performance against the Group’s $100M BHAG targets and report on Uganda’s contribution.
Team Leadership & Capability Building
- Lead, coach and develop a high-performing Uganda finance team.
- Set clear objectives, conduct performance reviews and identify training needs.
- Drive standardisation of financial processes and systems across Uganda entities.
- Represent the finance function in Uganda leadership and entity management meetings.
Qualifications or requirements
Qualifications
- Qualified accountant — CPA(U), ACCA, CIMA or equivalent (mandatory).
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related field.
- Master’s degree or MBA is an advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 8 years of progressive finance experience, with at least 3 years in a Financial Controller or senior finance management role.
- Proven experience managing multiple business units or entities simultaneously.
- Strong background in the East African operating environment; Uganda-specific regulatory and tax expertise required.
- Experience in a manpower solutions, staffing, professional services or multi-site services business is preferred.
- Prior experience managing or supervising AR and AP functions is essential.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong technical accounting skills (IFRS / local GAAP).
- Advanced proficiency in accounting systems (ERP experience required) and Excel.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to translate financial data into operational insight.
- High integrity and personal accountability; able to operate with minimal supervision.
- Effective communicator and influencer — able to engage both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
- Resilient, self-starter; comfortable managing competing demands across multiple entities.
