About CBM

CBM (registered as CBM Christoffel-Blindenmission Christian Blind Mission e.V.) is an international development organisation committed to improving the quality of life of persons with disabilities in the persons communities of the world. Based on our Christian values and more than 100 years of professional expertise, we address poverty as a cause and a consequence of disability. We work in partnership to create an inclusive society for all.

About the role:

CBM is seeking a Security & Safeguarding Advisor to lead the implementation of our global security and safeguarding strategy in line with international standards. In this role, you will identify risks, strengthen mitigation measures, and develop early-warning systems to keep our people, partners, and programmes safe. You will work closely with country offices, focal points, and the Global Security & Safeguarding team to contextualise plans, lead risk assessments and security management planning, and build capacity across CBM’s programmes. You will also provide technical expertise to ensure security and safeguarding are fully integrated into project design and proposals. Success in this role calls for sound judgement, strong risk-management expertise, and a genuine commitment to safe, inclusive, and accountable programming worldwide. We’re looking for an advisor experienced in both security and safeguarding—a proactive approach to protecting individuals, especially vulnerable groups, from harm, abuse, exploitation, or neglect. This position is locally hired and may be based only in one of the following CBM entities: Nairobi (Kenya), Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), or Kampala (Uganda).

These are your responsibilities

  • Support several, designated country offices and partners in the Eastern and Southern part of Africa to develop, update, and implement safeguarding and security plans and risk assessments in line with CBM’s global policies.
  • Ensure all plans reflect local contexts and promote disability-inclusive and gender-sensitive practices.
  • Provide training, coaching, and guidance to country office and partner staff and designated safeguarding and security focal points.
  • Monitor compliance with CBM’s minimum operational standards and support continuous improvement of safeguarding and security systems.
  • Lead or advise on responses to safeguarding and security incidents, coordinating closely with crisis management teams.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external networks to share learnings, track emerging risks, and strengthen CBM’s global safeguarding and security culture.

You Have

  • A bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Administration, Management, Social Sciences, or a related field — or equivalent education and experience.
  • At least 5 years of leadership experience in security and/or safeguarding management, ideally within an INGO setting in the region.
  • Proven expertise in safeguarding, including risk assessments, incident management, and implementation of prevention measures.
  • Strong experience in personnel and organisational security, conducting threat and risk assessments, and developing mitigation and reporting systems.
  • A solid track record in developing and implementing Security and Safeguarding Plans across diverse contexts.
  • Experience in designing and facilitating training, coaching, and capacity-building initiatives.
  • Willingness to travel frequently, including to locations with limited security infrastructure.
  • Flexibility and commitment to be reachable during emergencies or incidents.
  • Identification with Christian values and the mandate of the CBM.

What we offer

A meaningful position with a lot of creative freedom in the world's leading organisation in the field of Disability Inclusive Development

A fair salary and other social benefits based on the local conditions in the country you apply for

An approachable, agile organisation with self-reliant people in a diverse and collegial team and great team spirit
