Brac Uganda Bank Ltd. launched on 26 April 2019 and attained its status as a Tier II Credit Institution following a successful background as the leading Microfinance services provider in Uganda. The Bank operates 32 branches and 130 satellite offices covering over 84 districts in Uganda, targeting Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.
Brac Uganda Bank Ltd promotes financial inclusion by extending financial services to unreached and underserved populations, especially women and youth as well as people living in poverty in rural areas. To foster the Bank’s operations, we are seeking to fill the following vacancy.
Responsibilities or duties
MAIN JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure timely and accurate computation, filing, and payment of all statutory taxes, including PAYE (Pay As You Earn), Corporation Tax/Income Tax, Withholding Tax (WHT), Value Added Tax (VAT), Stamp Duty, Excise Duty, where applicable, in line with URA’s online tax portal (eTax/eFiling) system.
- Maintain up-to-date tax records and ensure compliance with Bank of Uganda (BOU), URA, and Financial Intelligence Authority (FIA) regulatory standards.
- Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual tax reports to management and regulators after thorough reconciliations.
- Provide tax planning and advisory services to management to optimize the BUBL’s tax efficiency and compliance.
- Review new financial products, contracts, and transactions to assess tax implications and ensure compliance to mitigate tax risks.
- Advise management on changes in Ugandan tax laws, regulations, and URA rulings, and their impact on the business.
- Liaise with URA during tax audits, queries, and investigations.
- Prepare responses and documentation for tax assessments or disputes and maintain strong relationships with external auditors and tax consultants.
- Review tax computations, provisions and deferred tax calculations in line with IFRS and IAS 12 and ensure correct posting of tax entries in the general ledger.
- Support reconciliation and preparation of annual financial statements by providing tax disclosures.
- Manage Supplier payment processes for efficiency and tax compliance and maintain effective payments reconciliation framework.
- Supervise and mentor finance officers and other finance staff involved in tax-related tasks.
- Conduct regular tax training sessions for finance, business teams and MANCO.
- Streamline and automate tax processes to improve efficiency, accuracy and compliance.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Economics, or Business Administration and other related disciplines.
- Professional accounting qualifications: ACCA/CPA.
- Postgraduate certification in Tax is an added advantage.
- Strong understanding of Uganda’s tax laws, IFRS, and financial sector regulations.
- Good communication and presentation skills at a senior level.
- Proficiency in accounting software such as Oracle, Microsoft accounting applications and others.
- Good interpersonal skills required in liaising with stakeholders at different levels within the Bank.
Experience needed
- At least 3 years of progressive experience in taxation, in a financial institution, audit firm or tax advisory firm at Supervisor Level.
- Proven experience managing tax compliance with URA and handling tax audits.
