JOB DESCRIPTION – TEAM LEAD ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING

Reports to: ENGINEERING MANAGER

Department: ENGINEERING

Grade: M2

Direct Reports:

  • Electrical Engineer
  • Electrical Supervisor
  • Electrical technicians
  • Electrical Graduate trainees

JOB OVERVIEW:

The Electrical Engineering Team Leader will provide end-to-end leadership of all electrical engineering functions across Yalelo Uganda operations. The role ensures high plant availability, safe and reliable electrical infrastructure, and successful execution of expansion projects. It leads a team including Electrical Engineer, Electrical Supervisor, Technicians, and Graduate Trainees while driving safety, compliance, reliability, and engineering governance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Electrical Infrastructure Leadership & Reliability

  • Lead electrical maintenance and reliability programs across production, cold rooms, ice plants, hatcheries, and utilities.
  • Ensure continuous power availability and system stability.
  • Oversee troubleshooting of complex electrical failures affecting production.
  • Ensure preventive maintenance planning for critical systems.

Expansion Projects & Infrastructure Development

  • Lead electrical works for plant expansion, cold rooms, ice plants, and distribution upgrades.
  • Review designs, BOQs, and contractor works.
  • Ensure commissioning and handover of installations.
  • Coordinate multiple parallel projects under tight timelines.

Safety, Compliance & ERA Requirements

  • Ensure compliance with ERA licensing requirements.
  • Drive closure of safety audit findings.
  • Enforce LOTO, PTW systems, and electrical safety standards.
  • Lead incident investigations.

Asset Reliability & RCA

  • Support and improve existing preventive and predictive maintenance systems.
  • Lead RCA for major failures.
  • Address overloads, power instability, and equipment breakdowns and load analysis profile update.

Energy Management

  • Optimize energy usage.
  • Manage load balancing and generator dependency.
  • Lead the energy committee and follow up strategies

Leadership & Coaching

  • Supervise and develop electrical engineering team with clear succession plans.
  • Build technical capability and accountability.
  • Conduct performance management within the team.
  • Champion annual site electrical safety audits

Administration & Governance

  • Manage electrical budgets and maintenance records.
  • Support audits and compliance reporting.
  • Ensure critical spare parts availability.

REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
  • ERA licensed engineer.
  • 7–10 years industrial experience.
  • 3–5 years supervisory experience.
  • Strong MV/LV systems experience.
  • Vast Experience in the following regulations: BS7671, National Regulatory Authority (ERA), National Regulatory Authority (IEC standards), Uganda National Grid standards
