About AsOne Ministries

AsOne Ministries is a Christ-centered, non-profit organization committed to making disciples of Jesus and creating sustainable solutions in education, enterprise, health, and agriculture. We exist to end spiritual, relational, and economic poverty — one community at a time — by investing in holistic development in rural, underserved communities across Uganda. Our mission is rooted in personal and communal transformation that reflects the love and truth of Christ.

Position Summary

As an Upper Primary School Teacher at AsOne Ministries, your role goes beyond academic instruction. You will be responsible for teaching English and Social Studies (SST) to P5, P6, and P7 classes, nurturing well-rounded, spiritually rooted, and academically prepared students. You are expected to uphold the professional code of conduct for educators.

Key Responsibilities

Instructional Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver lesson plans for English and Social Studies (SST) aligned with national and school curricula.
  • Teach engaging, inclusive, and Christ-centered lessons that build learners' reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills, alongside their understanding of geography, history, and civic responsibility.
  • Build learners' English literacy and comprehension through structured reading programs, grammar instruction, composition writing, and vocabulary development.
  • Guide students in Social Studies through map work, current affairs, community and environmental studies, and Uganda's history and governance.
  • Provide remedial support where needed, following the school timetable.
  • Assess and evaluate student learning through a range of formative and summative tools, including compositions, comprehension exercises, and SST projects.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs and abilities.

Classroom & Student Management

  • Maintain a positive, disciplined, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Provide guidance and counseling to students.
  • Maintain discipline while promoting mutual respect and spiritual growth.
  • Uphold Christian values and integrate Biblical principles into classroom discussions.

Administrative & Collaborative Duties

  • Maintain accurate class records, including attendance, inventory, assessments, and progress reports.
  • Participate in internal examinations: setting, administering, and marking English and SST papers.
  • Engage with parents and guardians through regular communications and meetings.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and school leadership to enhance school-wide programs.
  • Participate in school initiatives, including devotions, fellowships, and outreach programs.

Professional Development

  • Reflect on teaching practices and pursue continuous personal and professional growth.
  • Attend staff development sessions and contribute ideas to improve school operations.
  • Stay current with educational research and teaching methodologies in English and Social Studies instruction.

Other Duties

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head Teacher or administration as needs arise.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Certificate or Diploma in Primary Education from a recognized institution.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience in primary education, with proven ability and hands-on experience teaching P5, P6, and P7 classes.
  • Subject Proficiency: Solid understanding of the English and Social Studies subject matter, curriculum, and teaching strategies.

Technical Competencies

  • Proficient in lesson planning, classroom delivery, and student assessment.
  • Strong classroom management and student engagement techniques.
  • Ability to integrate technology in teaching and learning.
  • Skilled in maintaining accurate records and reporting student progress.
  • Capable of creating a safe and nurturing environment for students' academic and spiritual growth.
