Chemistry Lecturer – 1 Position

The Chemistry Lecturer is responsible for delivering instruction in Chemistry, conducting laboratory work, and contributing to research and curriculum development.

  • Teaching and Learning: Prepare and deliver engaging lectures, seminars, and practical sessions for undergraduate and postgraduate students in Chemistry. Design and develop course materials, ensuring content is current, relevant, and aligned with the curriculum.
  • Laboratory Instruction: Plan, set up, and supervise laboratory experiments and practical sessions to reinforce theoretical concepts and develop students' practical skills.
  • Student Supervision and Mentorship: Supervise and mentor undergraduate and postgraduate students in their research projects, laboratory work, and dissertations. Provide academic guidance to support their professional development.
  • Assessment and Evaluation: Set, administer, and grade assignments, tests, practical reports, and examinations, providing timely and constructive feedback. Conduct continuous assessments and end-of-semester examinations to evaluate student progress.
  • Research and Scholarship: Conduct research in Chemistry and publish findings in peer-reviewed journals. Seek external research funding and contribute to the body of knowledge in the field.
  • Laboratory Safety: Enforce strict safety protocols in the chemistry laboratory, ensuring proper handling of chemicals, equipment, and waste disposal.
  • Curriculum Development: Contribute to the design, review, and improvement of the Chemistry curriculum to ensure it meets national and international standards.
  • Academic Service: Participate in departmental and faculty meetings, serve on academic committees, and contribute to the overall development of the department.
  • Participates in developing and delivering course materials.
  • Sets, invigilates, marks, compiles course work and examinations results, and provides timely feedback to students and Head of Department.
  • Guides and advises students on their academic performance.
  • Conducts and disseminates research findings.
  • Supervises undergraduate students undertaking research projects.
  • Participates in seminars, workshops and conferences.
  • Initiates and participates in outreach services for the development of the community
  • Implements approved annual workplans and budgets and submits reports.
  • Implements a risk management strategy.
  • Promotes quality assurance in teaching, research, innovation and extension services.

  • PhD in the relevant discipline in Education from a recognised institution.
  • Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline in education from a recognised institution.
  • First Class or Second Class (Upper) Division Bachelor’s degree in Education from a recognized institution; OR an Honours Bachelor’s degree in relevant subject areas and a postgraduate diploma in Education from a recognized institution.
  • Registered Teacher.
