CLINICAL INSTRUCTOR – MIDWIFERY

Job Purpose

To provide practical clinical instruction and supervision to midwifery students, ensuring they acquire the competencies required for safe, ethical and evidence-based maternal and newborn care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise midwifery students during clinical placements.
  • Demonstrate maternal, newborn and reproductive-health procedures.
  • Guide students in antenatal, intrapartum, postnatal and newborn care.
  • Supervise students during clinical procedures and patient interactions.
  • Assess clinical skills and competencies.
  • Provide constructive feedback and mentorship.
  • Ensure students follow professional, ethical and patient-safety standards.
  • Monitor compliance with infection-prevention and control procedures.
  • Maintain clinical attendance and assessment records.
  • Liaise with health-facility staff regarding student placements and performance.
  • Support clinical examinations and competency assessments.
  • Guide students in case studies, case presentations and clinical documentation.
  • Identify students requiring additional clinical support.
  • Report significant clinical incidents or student performance concerns.
  • Participate in curriculum review and clinical education activities.
  • Promote respectful, confidential and patient-centred maternity care.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Relevant professional qualification in Midwifery.
  • Valid professional registration and practising licence where applicable.
  • Relevant clinical experience in midwifery.
  • Previous student-supervision or clinical-instruction experience is an advantage.
  • Strong practical, mentoring and communication skills.
