CLINICAL INSTRUCTOR – MIDWIFERY
Job Purpose
To provide practical clinical instruction and supervision to midwifery students, ensuring they acquire the competencies required for safe, ethical and evidence-based maternal and newborn care.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise midwifery students during clinical placements.
- Demonstrate maternal, newborn and reproductive-health procedures.
- Guide students in antenatal, intrapartum, postnatal and newborn care.
- Supervise students during clinical procedures and patient interactions.
- Assess clinical skills and competencies.
- Provide constructive feedback and mentorship.
- Ensure students follow professional, ethical and patient-safety standards.
- Monitor compliance with infection-prevention and control procedures.
- Maintain clinical attendance and assessment records.
- Liaise with health-facility staff regarding student placements and performance.
- Support clinical examinations and competency assessments.
- Guide students in case studies, case presentations and clinical documentation.
- Identify students requiring additional clinical support.
- Report significant clinical incidents or student performance concerns.
- Participate in curriculum review and clinical education activities.
- Promote respectful, confidential and patient-centred maternity care.
Qualifications and Experience
- Relevant professional qualification in Midwifery.
- Valid professional registration and practising licence where applicable.
- Relevant clinical experience in midwifery.
- Previous student-supervision or clinical-instruction experience is an advantage.
- Strong practical, mentoring and communication skills.
