Job Summary

As a Credit Analyst within Standard Chartered's Corporate & Investment Banking division, you will play a pivotal role in evaluating and managing the credit risk associated with our diverse client portfolio. Your expertise will support Account Managers by conducting rigorous credit reviews, ongoing risk assessments, and providing insightful analysis of client creditworthiness. This vital function helps ensure alignment with the bank's risk appetite while adapting to dynamic market and economic conditions across various territories and asset classes.

About the Banking and Coverage Team
You will collaborate closely with our Banking and Coverage team, which leads client relationship management globally. This team partners across our network and with product specialists to deliver tailored working capital, financing, trade, cash management, and market solutions. These solutions range from sustainable trade finance opportunities to sophisticated credit derivatives and mergers and acquisitions advice, placing you at the heart of innovative financial service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Lead comprehensive credit evaluations and reviews to thoroughly assess client credit risk and verify creditworthiness in alignment with Standard Chartered’s policies and regulatory standards.
  • Generate precise and timely credit portfolio analyses, succinctly communicating key findings and recommendations to stakeholders including Account Managers and Risk colleagues.
  • Take accountability for detailed financial statement spreading, assigning credit grades in accordance with internal scorecards, and document client risk profiles alongside risk mitigations, vigilantly monitoring for any credit-impacting developments.
  • Collaborate effectively with Banking, Coverage, and Risk teams to originate credit assessments and maintain oversight of credit exposures to support sound decision-making.
  • Conduct fraud risk assessments on client portfolios, documenting residual risks and recommending mitigants following the bank’s defined frameworks.
  • Use credit intelligence to assist in identifying profitable business opportunities that maintain acceptable risk profiles, partnering with Relationship Managers, Financial Institution Bankers, and Product specialists to tailor product solutions.
  • Perform in-depth credit analyses encompassing market dynamics and industry-specific risks, including evaluation of:
    • Industry trends and competitive positioning of clients within their sectors.
    • Client funding strategies, financial policies, treasury functions such as hedging and cash management practices.
    • Liquidity and cash flow, applying ratio analyses and stress testing to assess balance sheet resilience and profitability vulnerabilities.
    • Reputational risk factors with consideration for environmental impact, climate change, and sustainability-related risks.

Skills and Experience

To thrive in this role, you should possess:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the risk management lifecycle, including identification, assessment, mitigation, and monitoring of credit risks.
  • Strong skills in financial forecasting, quantitative analysis, and financial modelling to support robust credit decision-making.
  • Demonstrated capability with client due diligence procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks and internal policies.
  • Experience applying client behaviour data and preferences to evolve product offerings and deliver superior service experiences.
  • Solid understanding of products across Markets, Transaction Banking, and Corporate Finance to contribute fully to credit analyses and commercial discussions.
  • Familiarity with the regulatory environment shaping the financial services industry, including compliance with global and local standards.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools to translate complex data into actionable insights.
  • Ability to perform effectively under pressure and navigate a dynamic banking environment with agility and sound judgement.
