Background information about the job or company (e.g., role context, company overview)
Support the Legal Directorate in the management and follow up of Legal matters in the University.
Responsibilities or duties
- Examine legal data and conduct legal related research;
- Supervise and appraise staff;
- Peruse University staff files on legal issues;
- Compile relevant recorded cases in Courts of Laws and file Court documents;
- Participate in the valuation and survey of the University property and land;
- Draft memoranda, articles of Association and floating companies;
- Carry out searches in the land and company registries;
- Follow up Court matters for hearing and update Legal Officers on their schedules;
- Update the Legal Office on new legislations, publication in the Uganda Gazette, Law reports and such related matters;
- Identify Law reports, legislation, books and reading materials for the Legal Unit Library;
- Keep records of all Council policies, statutes, rules and regulations;
- Collect information to draft pleadings;
- Attend to Student’s Welfare Committee;
- Perform any other related duties assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
- An Honor’s Bachelor of Laws Degree;
- A Diploma in Legal Practice (LDC);
- Enrolled as an Advocate of the High Court of Uganda with a valid practicing certificate;
- A Master of Laws Degree from a recognized institution will be an added advantage.
Experience needed
Minimum of 2 years relevant working experience in a Law firm or legal unit of a reputable organization in the areas of commercial and land transaction.

- Ability to build, lead, and work with teams;
- Computer Literacy, Interpersonal & Communication skills;
- Quick judgment and decision making;
- Ability to initiate change.
