On behalf of our client in the manufacturing sector, we are looking for a competent and experienced Machine Operator to be based in Kampala

Reports To: Production Manager

Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda.

Job Summary: The Machine Operator Shall Set up and operate a production machine in accordance with established procedures and guidelines. In addition, the machine operator should be able to adjust machine settings to complete tasks accurately, according to specifications and in a timely fashion

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate different types of machines including Wire, Roll formers, Electric overhead cranes and other manufacturing equipment.
  • Document accurate production data in production forms and or logbooks after execution of orders.
  • Run quantity and quality checks on products on machine(s) assigned on specific days and correct where deviation from norm is detected. This includes length, interlocking, cover width, colour check and any other required quality check.
  • Ensure machines assigned are thoroughly cleaned and shop floor is properly maintained.
  • Conduct Autonomous Maintenance on machines including inspections, tightening and lubrication on assigned machines.
  • Escalate any machine breakdown beyond operator capability via maintenance forms.
  • Ensure following of SOPs and best practices on EHS.
  • Take lead in ensuring Machine productivity and OEE of the machines are maintained at OEM levels or above.
  • Perform necessary pre-operation activities to ensure proper equipment start up and operation on multiple pieces of equipment
  • Any other assignment by management as may be required in the interest of production.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

Academic Qualifications required:

  • A Diploma level education or equivalent in any relevant discipline.

Experience required:

  • A minimum experience of 2–3 years of experience operating machinery in a manufacturing or similar field preferably in the Steel Manufacturing Sector

Key competencies and skills:

Technical Skills

  • Experience in operating wire and roll-forming machines.
  • Experience in running wire machines
  • Operating manufacturing or production machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Understanding machine controls, settings and adjustments.
  • Performing basic machine maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Reading and interpreting production schedules, instructions, and technical documents.
  • Knowledge of workplace health and safety procedures.

Soft Skills

  • Attention to detail
  • Good problem-solving abilities
  • Time management
  • Teamwork and communication skills
