On behalf of our client in the manufacturing sector, we are seeking a competent and experienced Mechanical Technician to be based in Kampala, Uganda.

Job Summary:
The Mechanical Technician will be responsible for ensuring optimal equipment performance by meeting established Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) targets. This role also involves carrying out planned and preventive maintenance on all mechanical equipment, diagnosing and repairing faults, and conducting root cause analysis (RCA) to minimize downtime and prevent recurring failures. The technician shall play a key role in improving equipment reliability, supporting production efficiency, and ensuring compliance with safety and maintenance standards.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Service/refurbish standby spares and equipment and ensure they are ready for utilization.
- Spearhead critical preventive schedules as assigned on SAP and ensure over 95% compliance.
- Carry out corrective, preventive and breakdown maintenance and ensure 95% uptime.
- Generate maintenance tasks and liaise with engineers for execution.
- Carry out improvements activities within the plant as directed by Engineer.
- Suggest for replacement of plant and recommend Modifications.
- Liaise with engineers and stores to ensure optimal stock levels of spare parts.
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by your immediate supervisor.
- Suggest and/ or carry out performance improvement modifications.
- Any other maintenance related tasks as may be necessary in ensuring excellence in Availability.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
- Mechanical Diploma/Craft Certificate from a recognized College or University.
- At least 5 years minimum working experience.
- Understanding of service and repair of compressors, Generators, Overhead cranes, Roll formers, general hydraulics and pneumatics.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical fabrication, basic welding and blade settings.
- Ability to diagnose mechanical issues.
- Excellent Problem-Solving and Analytical skills.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in repairs and maintenance.
- Good team-player
- Computer literate with proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Excellent Time Management and Organizational skills.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks.
Barriers to Success in Role
- Limited or lack of knowledge about mechanical systems, components, and equipment.
- Inability to diagnose mechanical issues.
