The Joint Clinical Research Centre (JCRC) is an indigenous medical organization that was established in 1991 as a limited liability not-for-profit Joint-venture between the Uganda Ministry of Health (MoH), Ministry of Defense and Makerere University Medical School (now Makerere University College of Health Sciences). JCRC is located on plot 101 Lubowa Hill Off Entebbe Road P.O. Box 10005 Kampala.
Joint Clinical Research Centre seeks to recruit a dynamic, motivated and innovative candidate for the following position;
The Joint Clinical Research Centre (JCRC) is a leading institution in Uganda dedicated to medical research, training, and the delivery of quality healthcare services. JCRC seeks to recruit a highly qualified and experienced professional to serve as Principal for the JCRC Health Sciences Training Program. The successful candidate will provide academic leadership and strategic direction for laboratory-based training programs, as well as other health sciences programs, ensuring excellence in both practical laboratory instruction and pedagogical practice.
Responsibilities or duties
- Provide leadership in the development and delivery of laboratory-based health sciences training programs
- Oversee laboratory and other training facilities, ensuring compliance with biosafety and quality standards
- Ensure integration of hands-on laboratory practice with modern pedagogical approaches
- Participate in curriculum design, review, and implementation in line with national and international standards
- Supervise and mentor teaching staff and trainees
- Promote research, innovation, and continuous professional development
- Ensure compliance with accreditation and regulatory requirements
- Build and maintain partnerships with academic, government, and health sector among other stakeholders
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Laboratory Technology (BBLT), or a related field.
- Formal pedagogical training (e.g. Advanced Diploma/Postgraduate qualification in Medical Education or Health Professions Education) is MUST.
- Poses a valid practicing license.
Experience needed
- A minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience in laboratory practice and training.
- Proven experience in academic leadership or management of training programs.
Key Competencies:
- Demonstrated teaching and pedagogical skills
- Strong expertise in laboratory sciences and diagnostics
- Leadership and team management ability
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Provide leadership in the development and delivery of laboratory-based health sciences training programs
