To drive compliance with operational controls, processes, standards, and regulatory requirements to minimize risk exposure and support operational resilience across Technology operations through effective stakeholder engagement, governance, and continuous improvement.

Job Title: Senior Specialist – Risk & Primary Controls

Reports to: Manager – Standards and Compliance

No. of Vacancies: 1

Main Job Functions:

  • Conduct compliance reviews and operational audits across Technology operations to ensure adherence to MTN Group standards, National Telecommunications Operator License requirements, Quality of Service requirements, and applicable regulatory frameworks.
  • Drive operational risk assessments, mitigation strategies, and technology resilience initiatives to strengthen operational continuity and service assurance across Technology operations.
  • Participate in technology change governance, including the Change Management Board, to ensure adherence to approved change management processes and operational controls.
  • Coordinate and support internal and external audit activities, ensuring timely closure of compliance findings and control gaps.
  • Monitor adherence to operational processes, policies, standards, and procedures while driving continuous efficiency improvements.
  • Prepare governance, compliance, risk, and resilience reports for management and stakeholders.
  • Liaise with internal teams, vendors, auditors, and the regulator to strengthen governance and compliance across Technology operations.
  • Ensure implementation and monitoring of network security, governance, and operational controls in alignment with ISO27001 and other applicable standards and best practices.

KPA Quality Standards/ Measures (KPI’S for job)

  • Compliance with MTN Group standards, regulatory requirements, and operational governance frameworks
  • Effective governance and risk oversight for technology changes, upgrades, and operational activities
  • Timely closure and follow-up of audit findings, risk issues, and control gaps
  • Technology operational controls implemented and maintained within approved standards and policies
  • Timely and accurate reporting of operational risk, compliance, audit, and governance metrics
  • Support successful implementation of technology transformation and change management initiatives with minimal operational risk exposure
  • Timely stakeholder engagement and resolution of governance, compliance, and operational control issues

Education

  • BSc Electrical/Telecommunications Engineering, or related course.

Work Experience

  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in Telecommunications Network Operations, Operational Resilience, or Network/Service Planning.
  • Proven experience working in a telecommunications environment with exposure to operational controls, audit, governance, regulatory compliance, and operational resilience processes.
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement, operational reporting, audit coordination, and change governance, and risk management activities.

Skills / physical competencies:

  • Governance & Compliance – Strong understanding of operational controls, governance frameworks, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Risk Management & Operational Resilience – Evaluate effectiveness of operational and technical controls to proactively identify vulnerabilities, minimise operational risk exposure, and enhance technology reslience
  • Analytical & Problem Solving – Ability to analyze operational risk trends, audit findings, compliance metrics, and service performance indicators and recommend improvements.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration – Ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams, auditors, vendors, regulators, and management.
  • Communication & Reporting – Ability to prepare clear reports, presentations, and governance updates for different stakeholders.
  • Process improvement – Drive continuous improvement initiatives through process optimization, automation and enhanced operational practices
  • Planning & Coordination – Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills.
