The Tax Accountant is responsible for managing all statutory tax obligations, ensuring accurate tax reporting, and maintaining strict compliance with local tax legislation and Group requirements. The role reviews tax data, maintains reconciliation accuracy, provides tax advisory support, prepares filings, and ensures timely submission of accounts. It demands high attention to detail, strong analytical ability, and deep knowledge of tax laws and corporate financial processes.
Key Deliverables
- Maintain full compliance with statutory tax governance by preparing, reviewing, and submitting VAT, WHT, Corporate Income Tax, and deferred tax schedules within regulated timelines.
- Strengthen data integrity across tax processes by validating tax packs, verifying ERP postings, reviewing reconciliations, and ensuring alignment with Group reporting obligations.
- Enhance audit and compliance performance through timely response to tax authority queries, preparation of supporting documentation, and adherence to internal tax controls.
- Provide tax advisory support by interpreting tax legislation, guiding departments on tax implications, and escalating high-risk matters to the Financial Controller.
- Drive tax governance by updating tax trackers, ensuring correct documentation retention, conducting internal reviews, and maintaining audit-ready tax files.
- Support financial close by ensuring balance sheet reconciliations, tax bookings, and related documentation are accurate and submitted within deadlines.

Qualifications
Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Commerce, Statistics, or related field.
- Professional qualification (ACCA, CPA) required or in advanced stages.
- Additional certification in taxation is an added advantage.
- Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in retail operations, sales, or customer service.
- Experience working with frontline staff, customer feedback tools, and operational reporting.
Competencies
- Minimum 4 years’ experience in tax accounting or corporate finance.
- Strong knowledge of Uganda tax laws and international tax principles.
- Experience working with ERP systems such as JDE or SAP.
Working Environment
Office-based with periodic engagement with auditors, tax consultants, and government authorities. High emphasis on accuracy and compliance.
Performance Metrics
- Timeliness and accuracy of statutory tax filings.
- Quality of reconciliations and tax reporting.
- Audit outcomes and compliance scores.
- Responsiveness to internal and external tax enquiries.
