Job Summary

The Research Associate II Product Design is a pivotal entry-level professional position within the Product Development Team. This role is designed for a highly motivated graduate to contribute to the Conceptualization, Design, and Prototyping of new and existing Vehicle Models and related Mobility Infrastructure and Facilities. The Research Associate II will be an immersive and hands-on professional, supporting experienced designers and engineers in user research, ideation, 3D modelling, and the development of virtual and physical prototypes. This position directly contributes to Kiira Motors Corporation's mission of creating innovative and sustainable mobility solutions, from the flagship Kayoola E-Bus to future products like the Kiira SUV. The role requires a strong design foundation, a passion for automotive aesthetics and functionality, a collaborative mindset, and an appreciation for cutting-edge technologies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Functional Responsibilities: Conceptualization, Design & Prototyping

The Research Associate II supports the entire design process, ensuring that new product concepts are developed with a strong focus on user needs, aesthetics, and technical feasibility.

1.1. Design Studio and Prototyping

  • Conducts user research using design thinking and other relevant methodologies to define design requirements and identify opportunities for product enhancements.
  • Contribute to ideation and concept development through sketching, rendering, and mood boards, translating design requirements into creative visual solutions.
  • Support in the development of detailed exterior and interior designs and specifications for new vehicle products.
  • Assist in the creation of 3D CAD models and contribute to the development of both virtual and physical design prototypes, ensuring models are accurate and align with design intent.

1.2. Computer-Aided Design (CAD) & Engineering (CAE) Support

  • Create, modify, and optimize product designs using advanced CAD software.
  • Set up and run CAE simulations to analyze a product's performance under various conditions (e.g., structural integrity, aerodynamics).
  • Contribute to Product Data Management (PDM), ensuring all design files and documentation are properly version-controlled, stored, and accessible.

1.3. Any Other Duties Assigned: Responsibility assigned by the Supervisor vital to Supporting Vision Execution, Enhancing Organizational Excellence and Fostering Cross-Functional collaboration.

2. Social Responsibilities: Collaboration & Communication

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Education Background

  • Minimum, completed the Minimum Requirements for the Award of a Bachelor’s Degree (Honours) in Architecture, Industrial Design, Product Design, or a related field from a recognized Academic Institution NOT EARLIER THAN APRIL 2023.

Experience

  • This is a Graduate Associateship position; no prior professional experience is required.
  • Prior experience through internships or significant academic projects related to vehicle design, industrial design, or physical prototyping is a significant advantage.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCES

  • 1. Technical Fundamentals: Foundational knowledge of design principles, mechanical engineering, and vehicle architecture.
  • 2. Design Studio & Prototyping Expertise: Proven skills in sketching, 2D and 3D rendering, and physical prototyping (e.g., clay modeling).
  • 3. AI & Industry 4.0 for Design: Familiarity with AI-powered design tools and generative design. Basic understanding of Industry 4.0 technologies like digital twins and augmented reality (AR) for virtual prototyping.
  • 4. CAD & CAE Proficiency: Competence in using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, Alias) and a basic understanding of CAE for simulation.
