Role Overview:
The Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for collecting, processing, and analyzing biological specimens to support accurate diagnosis. The role ensures quality control, proper equipment maintenance, and timely delivery of laboratory results in coordination with the imaging center's services.
Key Responsibilities:
Specimen Collection & Processing:
- Collect blood, urine, and other specimens using appropriate techniques (venipuncture, capillary, etc.).
- Process and prepare specimens for analysis according to established protocols.
- Perform routine laboratory tests in hematology, clinical chemistry, microbiology, and urinalysis.
Quality Assurance:
- Conduct quality control checks on reagents, equipment, and test results.
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment in accordance with manufacturer guidelines.
- Identify and report any discrepancies or equipment malfunctions promptly.
Documentation & Reporting:
- Accurately record test results and maintain patient confidentiality.
- Prepare and release laboratory reports in a timely manner.
- Ensure proper labeling, storage, and disposal of specimens and hazardous materials.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology from a recognized institution.
- Registered with the Allied Health Professionals Council with a valid practicing license.
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
- Proficiency in phlebotomy and basic laboratory procedures.
Competencies:
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety and infection control practices.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure.
- Good organizational and record-keeping skills.
