As the CEO, you shall lead the transformation and growth of Old Mutual Uganda, shaping the future of financial services in the region through visionary leadership across insurance, asset management, and shared services. You shall play a pivotal role in shaping East Africa’s financial landscape, contributing to group-wide strategic decisions and representing Uganda at the highest levels of Old Mutual Africa Operations. You shall also support and participate in vision and strategy development and decision-making for the company. Specifically translating mission, vision, and strategy for the enterprise into the mission, vision, and strategy for Uganda and owning overall responsibility for designing, developing, and delivering the strategic plans

Role Description

  • Strategy formation and implementation - Develop the strategy for Uganda, providing functional leadership, challenging the viability of the strategy and contributing creative ideas and insights to support the strategy formation process.  Incorporating strategic planning to execute the organization’s mission.
  • Business planning - Direct the development of annual and longer-term business plans for Uganda, ensuring alignment with strategy; quantify business outcomes, i.e., revenues or other key performance indicators (KPIs); set operating and capital expense budgets; and review and approve business cases for projects and programs that have significant business impact.
  • Organizational capability building - Identify the capabilities needed to meet the current and emerging business needs. Evaluate current capabilities, identify gaps, and prioritize development activities. Embed personal development and the fulfillment of personal potential in the culture of the organization. Build capabilities elsewhere in the organization through mentoring and other proactive methods.
  • Performance management - Set annual and long-term business-performance objectives and lead their delivery for a strategic function or group of businesses; manage and report on performance; hold direct reports accountable for the achievement of business plans, and take corrective action where necessary to ensure achievement, balancing the need to deliver short-term business objectives with the longer-term delivery of stakeholder value.
  • Stakeholder engagement - Identify and manage stakeholders in the C-suite, finding out their needs, issues, and concerns and reacting to them by leading and coordinating the development of stakeholder engagement plans to support the communication of business information and decisions.
  • Financial management and control – Take overall responsibility for designing, developing, and delivering the organization's global financial management and/or control strategy.
  • Leadership and direction – Communicate the organization's mission, vision, and values and its strategy for achieving these tenets; set and communicate the strategy and broad action plan for delivering these tenets within a strategic function; inspire a diverse workforce to commit to these tenets and do extraordinary things to achieve the organization's business goals.
  • Customer relationship development / prospecting – Develop and maintain professional interpersonal relationships with corporate senior executives of strategic potential accounts to facilitate business acquisition and retention.
  • Corporate representation – Represent the organization or institution in a variety of industry, institutional, and/or professional forums, boards, and committees in order to promote the company or institution brand or efforts. Represent the organization in external relations with investors, clients, industry, partners, the public, and others.
  • Board Relationship - Engage with the Board and key stakeholders to shape governance, drive strategic priorities, and ensure alignment with shareholder expectations.”.

Qualifications and Training

  • 10 years of senior leadership experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred. Professional certifications (e.g., CFA, CPA, ACII) advantageous.”
