Tugende’s core asset finance packages include medical and life insurance, training, safety equipment, and digital credit profiles in addition to affordable asset financing for SMEs. By helping clients grow economically and building digital track records of responsibility, we are creating a long-term ecosystem for MSMEs that will grow and thrive.
Tugende is tackling the credit gap for small businesses in Africa by enabling informal entrepreneurs to 1) own income‑generating assets, 2) build a verifiable digital credit profile, and 3) earn future growth opportunities through the Tugende digital platform. This platform includes discounts, smartphones, e‑commerce opportunities, and on‑demand credit lines. Tugende has financed 80,000+ clients and has hundreds of employees serving clients across its branches in Uganda and Kenya.
Role Overview
The Senior Data Analyst will be the lead data expert within Tugende, responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and reliability of our data ecosystem. The role owns the Data Warehouse (Redshift) and all BI outputs, serving as the single source of truth for analytics across the organization. Beyond reporting, this role will drive predictive analytics and AI-driven initiatives, delivering forward-looking insights that support strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
1. Data Governance & Warehouse Oversight
- Serve as the internal auditor and quality authority for Tugende’s Data Warehouse (Redshift).
- Validate new data views, transformations, and integrations from CRM, LMS, and microservices.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of data lineage, refresh frequencies, and ownership.
- Conduct quarterly DWH audits and recommend schema or view design improvements.
- Detect and resolve data inconsistencies before they impact reporting.
2. Business Intelligence & Reporting
- Design and continuously improve Power BI dashboards for senior management and departments.
- Define and standardize business metrics, KPI logic, and naming conventions.
- Translate business requirements into structured datasets and refresh strategies.
- Deliver timely ad hoc analyses and monthly summaries highlighting key performance trends.
- Ensure dashboards are accurate, actionable, and aligned with Tugende’s strategic priorities.
3. Data Quality Monitoring
- Implement automated validation and anomaly detection scripts.
- Establish monitoring dashboards that track data accuracy, timeliness, and completeness.
- Maintain a Data Accuracy Index and report quarterly results to the CTO.
- Build automated alerts for failed refreshes, missing data, or irregular patterns.
- Partner with engineering to enforce reconciliation standards and data integrity practices.
4. Predictive Analytics, Machine Learning & AI
- Design and maintain predictive models for loan performance, client churn, product adoption, and revenue forecasting.
- Collaborate with the CTO and Principal Engineer to prepare AI-ready datasets and feature stores.
- Build and deploy pilot models such as:
- Risk scoring and repayment probability
- GPS-based asset recovery prediction
- NLP models analyzing client feedback or call center transcripts
- Define a roadmap for AI integration into business processes and reporting systems.
- Document model design, validation results, and governance controls for accountability.
5. Collaboration & Internal Standards
- Align data strategy and standards with the CTO and Principal Engineer.
- Mentor junior analysts in SQL, Power BI, and data interpretation.
- Lead data literacy sessions and promote documentation culture within the BI team.
- Ensure all BI deliverables meet Tugende’s security, privacy, and quality standards.
- Collaborate with Finance, Operations, and Product teams to unify KPI definitions and reporting logic.
Qualifications, Experience, Knowledge and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, or related quantitative field (Master’s preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in data analytics, BI, or applied data science in fintech, banking, or fast-paced tech environments.
- Advanced SQL proficiency (Redshift/PostgreSQL preferred).
- Expert in Power BI (DAX, Power Query, Dataflows).
- Experience with Python or R for predictive and statistical analysis.
- Familiarity with AWS analytics stack (Redshift, SageMaker, Glue, S3).
- Understanding of ETL, data governance, and visualization best practices.
- Strong communication and analytical presentation skills.
