Uganda Retirement Benefits Regulatory Authority (URBRA) was established pursuant to section 2 of the Uganda Retirement Benefits Regulatory Authority Act 2011, No. 15 of 2011. lt is an autonomous government body responsible for regulating the establishment, management and operation of retirement benefits schemes in Uganda in both private and public sectors. The Authority is responsible for supervising institutions which provide retirement benefit products and services.

URBRA is seeking a dynamic qualified individual to fill the position below. The position requires a flexible person, with the capacity to perform under minimal supervision.

POSITION: Communication and Public Affairs Officer
Duty Station: URBRA OFFICES IN KAMPALA, UGANDA
REPORTS TO: SENIOR COMMUNICATION AND PUBLIC AFFAIRS OFFICER

Job summary:
The Communication and Public Affairs Officer is responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies aimed at promoting and enhancing URBRA's image in order to create good will and build international credibility.

Also responsible for organizing media events, conferences and exhibitions as well as participating in campaigns aimed at creating public awareness of the role played by URBRA in the socio-economic development of the country.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement communication strategies aimed at advancing the mission and objectives of URBRA through focused public relations programs;
  • Maintain regular contact with media representatives and stakeholders to promoted good public relations for URBRA.
  • Monitor publicity and conduct research to find out the concerns and expectations of URBRA's stakeholders.
  • Promptly respond to enquiries from media, individuals and other stakeholders and the general public
  • Write speeches as may be required by the Executive Office from time to time
  • Gather information, write articles and edit newsletters, reports, journals and other publicity materials including posters, fact sheets, speeches, brochures, internet web pages and other publications for internal and external audiences
  • Research, write and distribute press releases to targeted media
  • Prepare the production of publicity brochures, handouts, direct mail leaflets, promotional videos, photographs, films and multimedia programmes;
  • Organize events including press conferences, workshops, public lectures, exhibitions, open days and press tours;
  •  Update information on the Authority's website;
  • Foster community relations through events such as Corporate Social Responsibility events and open days

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (minimum second class honors upper division) in Mass Communications, Journalism, Marketing or equivalent qualifications from a recognized university
  • Master's degree in Mass Communications, Journalism, Marketing or equivalent qualifications will be an added advantage
  • Minimum three (3) years relevant experience in developing and implementing corporate communications programmes in a busy organization preferably in the financial sector.
