Senior Database Administrator

Mission & Objectives

To administer, secure and optimise UEDCL’s enterprise databases, ensuring reliable, recoverable and high-performing data services that support critical business operations, regulatory obligations and service continuity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, administer, maintain and upgrade approved enterprise database platforms in accordance with documented standards, licensing requirements and change controls.
  • Monitor database availability, health, scheduled jobs, query performance, storage usage, replication and capacity; investigate abnormalities and implement approved corrective action.
  • Configure, monitor and verify database backups and recovery mechanisms, including point-in-time recovery where supported; participate in restoration and disaster recovery tests against agreed recovery objectives.
  • Support database high-availability, replication and failover arrangements, working with infrastructure and application teams to minimise service interruption.
  • Implement authorised database patches, upgrades, configuration hardening and vulnerability remediation, with impact assessment, testing, rollback plans and auditable records.
  • Administer database accounts, roles and permissions under least-privilege and segregation-of-duties principles; monitor privileged access, activity logs and service accounts in collaboration with ICT Security.
  • Protect data confidentiality, integrity and availability through approved encryption, retention, access, audit and secure non-production data handling controls, in line with applicable laws and UEDCL policies.
  • Provide database operational support to mission-critical enterprise applications, including customer transaction and vending, billing, ERP and integration services, in liaison with application owners and vendors.
  • Support development, test and production database environments, including approved schema changes, database migrations, deployments and controlled refreshes, without bypassing production change approval.
  • Diagnose and resolve database incidents and recurring faults, perform root-cause analysis, document remedial actions and contribute to agreed out-of-hours major-incident support arrangements.
  • Undertake capacity planning and performance optimisation, including indexing, query analysis, data growth assessment and resource forecasting, and recommend improvements for review.
  • Maintain accurate database inventories, configuration baselines, runbooks, backup schedules, recovery procedures, dependency maps and technical documentation to support continuity and audit readiness.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Database Administrator, SAP BASIS, infrastructure, cybersecurity, application, integration and project teams on database changes, migrations and service improvements.
  • Prepare periodic database health, backup, availability, capacity, incident and security-control reports, escalating material risks and exceptions promptly.
