Tiko inspires futures where girls and young women take charge of their sexual and reproductive choices, with the freedom to shape their lives. Founded in 2014, Tiko is an African nonprofit organization that enhances the potential and fosters the resilience of adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) in Sub-Saharan Africa by addressing the critical “Triple Threat”: early pregnancy, HIV, and sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV). Tiko has developed its own unique girl-centric technology platform to unite an ecosystem of existing, established partners to provide an environment enabling girls to choose when, where and how they meet their health and wellbeing needs. Leveraging this technology-enabled, community-driven approach, Tiko collaborates with local and national health systems to drive sustainable, transformative change. Tiko operates in seven countries including Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Burkina Faso, South Africa, Zambia and Nigeria.

Tiko has offices in South Africa, Kenya, Ethiopia, the Netherlands and Portugal. Globally, our team consists of +230 enthusiastic, international colleagues. Whether you are working from our biggest office in Nairobi, the fast-growing office in South Africa, or from home, our people are young, and our culture is global and dynamic. Our work environment is fast-paced, informal, and friendly. You can learn more about what being part of Tiko is like here.

For this role, we are looking for applicants based in Nairobi, Kenya; Kampala, Uganda; Abuja, Nigeria; Johannesburg, South Africa; or Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

The Job

We’re looking for a Director of Evidence and Learning to lead Tiko’s measurement, evaluation, and learning (MEL) strategy and establish Tiko as a thought leader in impact measurement for adolescent girls and young women. In this pivotal role, you’ll combine technical expertise with strategic influence, driving rigorous evidence generation, strengthening government partnerships, and embedding learning into programmes to maximize impact.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement a harmonized MEL framework aligned to Tiko’s strategy, Theory of Change, and donor requirements.
  • Develop and lead cost-effectiveness methodologies for integrated services addressing the Triple Threat.
  • Create innovative approaches to impact and outcome measurement, ensuring robust evidence of Tiko’s model is generated and shared.
  • Standardize and adapt user feedback systems to inform programme design and improvement.
  • Build high-level collaborations with governments to strengthen data use for decision-making.
  • Support Ministries of Health in improving data quality systems and comparing Tiko’s evidence with national data.
  • Drive a research agenda covering impact evaluations, implementation research, learning studies, and client feedback.
  • Lead peer reviews, IRB submissions, ethics processes, and oversee publication of research outputs.
  • Represent Tiko in convenings, donor discussions, and partnerships as a thought leader on evidence generation.
  • Embed evidence, cost-effectiveness, and learning into proposals, reports, and strategic partnerships.
  • Lead, mentor, and support a globally distributed team of Research Leads and contractors, including budget oversight.

About You

You’re a recognized leader in monitoring, evaluation, and learning with deep expertise in adolescent sexual and reproductive health (ASRH). You thrive at the intersection of data, policy, and practice, able to build strong relationships with government and global partners, while also rolling up your sleeves to design methodologies and oversee high-quality research. You’re passionate about translating data into decisions that change lives at scale.

Requirements:

  • PhD in Public Health, Statistics, Data Science, Medical Sociology or a related field.
  • At least 8 years of senior-level MEL, research, and data systems experience in Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Proven experience in ASRH measurement (FP, HIV, SGBV).
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience working with governments, particularly Ministries of Health, on joint monitoring and data use.
  • Strong continental experience with demonstrated ability to work effectively in multicultural environments.
  • Expertise in cost-effectiveness analysis, ROI methodologies, and digital data systems.
  • Strong record of publishing peer-reviewed research and learning outputs.
  • Excellent communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Advanced skills in both qualitative and quantitative research and statistical analysis.
