Background

Andre Foods International (AFI) is a registered National Non-Governmental Organization (NNGO) in Uganda, pivotal in supporting refugees and vulnerable communities. AFI focuses on a multi-faceted approach to address food insecurity, malnutrition, health, WASH, environment, gender protection, and research. The organization has established partnerships with the government, industrialists, and local communities and has engaged in humanitarian efforts for international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and UN agencies.

AFI is actively seeking for an experienced and qualified candidate to fill the position of Food Safety and Quality (FSQ) Assurance Officer – School Feeding

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Co-facilitate the ToT on FSQ and Hygienic Cooking with District Health Inspectors, targeting Health Assistants, covering safe food handling, personal hygiene, cross-contamination prevention, storage and FIFO stock rotation.
  • Support the cascade of FSQ and Hygienic Cooking refresher training to school cooks, caterers and storekeepers, including the Energy-Efficient Cooking Module on proper use and maintenance of institutional cook stoves.
  • Oversee rollout and use of FSQ Monitoring Kits (moisture meters, aflatoxin testing tools) and institutionalise moisture-monitoring protocols across project schools.
  • Support joint technical site assessments with District Engineers and Health Inspectors to identify critical gaps (ventilation, drainage, kitchen/storage layout) for justified light-touch improvements.
  • Maintain a tracking system for non-conformities and corrective action plans across schools, following up to ensure timely closure.
  • Liaise with WFP food safety/quality focal points, District Health Inspectors, District Production Officers and UNBS representatives on food safety matters.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Public Health, or any related field from an approved, recognized and reputable academic institution.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of working experience in Food safety, quality Assurance, or Nutrition programmes, with practical skills in training, inspections, and compliance with national and international Food Safety and quality standards.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is a MUST.
  • Having a valid Riding permit is an added advantage.
