Team Work
The ULS is seeking for a qualified and experienced individual to fill the following position at its head office.
Position: Head of Litigation
Reporting to: Chief Executive Officer
Area of Placement: Head Office- Kampala

Job Summary
The Head of Litigation will be responsible for heading the Litigation department of the Uganda Law Society (ULS) developing litigation pathways and argumentation, and monitoring and ensuring progress of the litigation towards identified strategic goals as well as monitoring and evaluating the impact achieved. She/he will also be responsible for identifying and capitalizing on opportunities to compel implementation of judgments at national, regional and international levels. The Head of Litigation will ensure that advocacy and litigation initiatives are coordinated and mutually reinforced.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provide leadership, guidance, strategic direction, and day-to-day supervision for Litigation Officer and work across all programmatic areas.
2. Develop and maintain own significant caseload of civil rights litigation in courts.
3. Identify areas that require research on policy formulation, adjustments and public interest litigation and spearhead the research process.
4. Work to ensure development of a consistent pipeline of new litigation and commercial justice matters i.e. ensure incremental quarterly increase of new cases filed in court
5. Serve as a resource for ULS cases and handle all Public Litigation for and on behalf of ULS and also continuously identifies civil and criminal matters
6. Liaises with Litigation Cluster and proposes meritus matters in Litigation
7. Identify Rule of Law Violators and files petitions against them.
8. Support fundraising efforts, including the identification and cultivation of new funding sources.
9. Compile weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly reports.
10. Carry out any other lawful duties as may be assigned by the Chief Executive Officer

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
1. LLB and post graduate diploma in legal practice
2. Must possess a valid practicing certificate
3. At least 8 years of professional litigation experience.
4. Ability to speak local languages is an added advantage.
