JOB DETAILS:

Summary: The U.S. Mission in Uganda is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Laborer (Automotive janitor).

The work schedule for this position is:

  • Full Time, 40 hours per week

Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time following receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

Supervisory Position: N

Duties:  Assigned to the General Services Office (GSO), primarily Motor pool, the position performs basic car cleaning tasks in support of GSO Motor pool and laborer duties at the Chancery or GSO Annex.  Incumbent serves as an incidental operator of official vehicles and meets all requirements outlined in 14 FAM 433.

Qualifications and Evaluations

EDUCATION: Completion of elementary school is required.

Requirements:

EXPERIENCE:  Two years of vehicle maintenance, driving duties or general cleaning work experience is required.

Evaluations: (This may be tested)

LANGUAGE:  English level II (Limited knowledge) written & spoken is required.

 

Skills and abilities:

  • Must be able to physically able perform arduous tasks as well as work independently.
  • Must be able to use hand tools, cleaning tools and operate motorized equipment and vehicles.
  • Must be able to perform basic tasks, manual duties, and proper handling of equipment and materials.
  • Must be able to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment such as eyewear, and safety shoes.
  • Must be able to perform assign tasks in all types of weather, and environmental weather conditions to include at times severe cold, extreme heat, wet or dry weather conditions, and high winds.
  • Must have a valid and current Class B driver’s license. Must have had a valid driver’s license for a minumum of 5 years.
  • Must be able to use a computer only for annual trainings, such as ethics training, mitigating unconsciousbias, etc.

 

Qualifications:  All applicants under consideration will be required to pass medical and security certifications.

The certification letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate military branch of the service and contain (1) the military service dates including the expected discharge or release date; and (2) the character of service.  Acceptable documentation must be submitted in order for the preference to be given.

This level of preference applies to all Foreign Service employees on LWOP and CS with re-employment rights back to their agency or bureau.
