JOB DETAILS:

The Infectious Diseases Research Collaboration (IDRC) seeks to hire suitable candidates for the position of Midwife for the SEARCH SAPPHIRE Study (Phase B) to be based in South-Western and South-Central Uganda. The Midwives will enroll and follow up pregnant mothers during ANC, and in the community. The successful candidates will report to the site Clinical Officers.

Job description:
1. Charged with triage of women at the study clinic.
2. Oversee ANC, Immunization, and any other MCH duties related to the intervention.
3. Participate in recruitment of participants for the SEARCH SAPPHIRE study.
4. Participate in screening of study participants and obtain informed consent from study participants or their parents/guardians.
5. Work with VHTs to coordinate community enrollment activities.
6. Enrollment of study participants
7. Ensure that blood and other samples are collected as per study schedule and disbursed
1. to the testing laboratories.
8. Maintain confidentiality of study records and research findings as appropriate.
9. Compile and submit periodic and interim reports to the coordinators.
10. Responsible for ensuring that study data are collected, case report forms are completed and backing up data regularly.
11. Charged with clinical evaluation of study participants who may have complaints of possible Adverse Events and to determine whether their symptoms and physical exams meet the criteria for adverse events.
12. Compliment efforts of the other clinical staff at the Sapphire clinic at the health facility.
13. Ensure study participant details are captured in appropriate MOH registers as per national guidelines.

Any other duties assigned by the supervisor from time to time depending on the changing needs of the project.

Qualifications and other desirables for the job:
1. Diploma in Midwifery from a reputable institution.
2. At least two years of progressive work experience in HIV research setting with a reputable institution.
3. Registered with Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council with a valid practicing license.
4. Previous training in HIV combination prevention including PrEP delivery is an added advantage.
5. Ability to speak either Runyankole or Luganda.
6. Must have good computer skills.
7. Must have good organizational and interpersonal skills.
8. Must have valid GCP and PHRP certificates.

The Nurse Trackers will follow up participants within the communities and support clients with drug adherence. The successful candidates will report to the site Clinical Officers.

Job description:

1. Responsible for recruitment and follow up of participants within the communities, especially those who miss appointments.
2. Oversee the linkage of study participants from the communities to the health center.
3. Collection of electronic data from participants.
4. Prepare a list of clients who have missed clinic appointments.
5. Make home follow-ups of clients who have not come for their clinic appointments.
6. Counsel clients on adhering to their drugs and clinic appointments.
7. Provide back up to the study staff at the clinic and outreaches.
8. Proper identification and reporting of adverse events.
9. Foster a good working relationship with clients and the participating communities.
10. Counsel clients on PrEP adherence and follow up on clients who need to be supported during the study.
11. Make reports on clients followed up and the outcomes as well as activity reports.
12. Attend to clients as a clinical services team member.
13. Support VHTs to conduct study related activities in the community.
14. Participate in study outreaches to the community.
15. Attend weekly study meetings to provide study updates and reports.

Any other duties assigned by the supervisor from time to time depending on the changing needs of the project.

Qualifications and other desirables for the job:
1. A Diploma in Comprehensive Nursing from a recognized institution; a Bachelor’s degree in nursing is an added advantage.
2. A minimum of two years of progressive working experience in an HIV research setting, with good knowledge of research ethics.
3. Must be registered with the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council with a valid practicing license.
4. MUST be able to ride a motorcycle.
5. Must have up-to-date GCP/HSP training certificates.
6. Good computer skills and interpersonal skills.
7. Excellent knowledge (both oral and written) of Runyankole fluency and or Luganda languages.
